Subject: Falling Crest

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about falling crests or know where I could look. Google searches haven't helped at all. I just want to know the cause (if there is one) and anything I can do to stop it.

My 7 year old gelding with a HUGE neck and long, thick mane (until his neighbor ate it, now there is hardly anything left) is beginning to fall. I thought it might be because I have always kept his mane in bags and maybe they were too heavy. But, I've also ridden pretty consistently and on some majorly gnarly trails where he really beefed up, but in the last year or so, I've returned to school so I rarely ride him, just love all over him! But, I wondered if the lack of exercise is it.

Anyone know? Anyone know what I can do to stop it? Thanks!
