Subject: Friesian do Better in Cold Climates
In reply to: GC 's message, "Heat" on 19:49:56 02/26/11 Sat

My Friesian was born in Connecticut and lived in Michigan until 2.5 years old before moving him to Houston, TX. He has been living in Houston for 2 years now. He is doing very well in that climate with exceptional care. For instance: he is only turned out at night for short periods in the summer. We work him only at night during the summer. He has a fan over him in the summer plus 2 water buckets in his stall all the time. He tends to be more sluggish in the heat in comparison to other horse breeds in a similar condition. His performance in cold weather is much more energetic. My experience suggests that Friesians do better in colder weather and special care is needed in hotter climates.
