why would i whitwolf? i would not make a chocolate image out of my parents who i honour more than anyone else. that would be grotesque. if i got it as a gift i would honour the giver and accept graciouslly but would not be that comfortable. i think the commercialisation of religion or spirituality is just horrible and a contradiciton in terms.

but if you made it yourself it wouldn't be commercialism... ;) (Surely it's no more commercial than someone selling ritual clothing and tools etc...) If you're doing it to honour your deity then where's the harm? Surely it's the spirit and intention of the activity that counts.
What about hot-cross buns - these aren't seen as sacreligious by Christians? Is it wrong to buy a statue of the Buddha because someone else made it and you bought it (rather than making it yourself!)?
