] Date Posted: 5/10/07 16:29 A few wekks ago I said I was going to a US prison to visit an imate I had been writing to for 3 years. It was the most rewarding experiance i have ever had and saw america for what the country realy. The prison was based in a small town called Salem the captol of Oregon and they were not use to british visiting there and it was like living in a decade behind time. The Visit went well and we got on well. Learnt so much about him and his life. It saddens me that througth one mad moment of taking drugs his is now serving a LWP he has already served 15 years on this. He was learning so much from me and had to dicribe the internet to him. Dispite his life being the way it is we shared so many smiles and tears too. The whole atmosphere was so sad and a mixture of age groups in there. Mothers, fathers, wives and young children. I was talk in the prison and no one could not understand way I would all the way from the uk just to visit an imate. One of the guards thought that I was from some anti death penality group and was out to start trouble. I do campaign against it and for the way us inmate's are treated is alot harsh then in this country. It upset me when he told me that after each visit we had he was strip searched and had to have his back passage looked at to check for drugs. That is classed as a sexualy assult! America is so much like the middle east with there poor human rights record. I learnt one thing that we are all capable of making a mistake in life and all of those inmate that I saw showed very human emotion and were not animals or scam in anyway. Thanks for listning Blessed be Katie [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 9/10/07 12:50 Inmates do not have a happy life here that's for sure. I find it interesting that in the " Land of the free", there are more people in prison than in any other country. Hmmmmm. Glad your back and had an enlightening experience. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
