I think that people continue to eat meat because they don't really appreciate what goes on in intensive farming..however, i work for an agricultural college that has a pig unit. i have been present when a pig has been shot ( a bolt is put into its skull) i have to say that the first time i saw it I had to stand outside.. although the animal was dead it continued to thrash around for about 5 mins.. very disturbing.. I don't know why i continue to eat meat..I'll have to think about it... i suppose I can somehow switch off..and the more you see these things the more desensitised you become.... Date Posted: 16/05/07 9:02 I am a meat eater but I wouldnt say my meat was killed for pleasure. We only eat meat about twice per week and I only buy organic meat. I have gone veggie on a number of occasions but I used to be very sporty and found my energy levels werent the same if I stayed off meat for too long. I wont deny that thats the only reason I still eat it - I do like meat, particularly a Sunday roast. Im of the understanding that if an animal has a contented, well cared for life and a humane death then its okay in my book. Afterall, we used to hunt and eat meat to survive many many years ago. I do disagree with the distruction of vegetation to make way for cattle corals to support the demand for fast foot outlets though. Personally, I wouldnt touch any fast food with a barge pole, apart from the odd bag of chips at the seaside that is. Its good to see that more and more organic options are popping up in restaurants these days. I love to eat out but have usually opted for veggie meals as Im never sure where the meat products have come from. Anyway, meat eater or not, like you WW, I wouldnt preach either way. Its a personal choice and I respect all of you for whatever choice you make. Blessings Lil [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
