Shutdown Day

"It is obvious that people would find life extremely difficult without computers, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?
Be a part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the internet. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!
Shutdown your computer on this day and find out! Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer?"

I think they underestimate people, I would find it quite easy to go without my pc, there is a lot of stuff in the press recently about staying in front of your pc all the time, and how its bad for kids etc etc, I wonder why they dont worry about shoving employees infront of them for 8 hours a day though!! So called experts love to state what it is we should or shouldnt be doing in our own homes and dictate that they know wots best for us. Usually all in the name of consumerism though. Although I have to say I am glad that Harry is not a pc freak just yet, a lot of kids his age are, ( he is 5!!) Mind you if you were to say go without my telephone and then your talking global catastrophe though!!!!! hehe.

i would happily go without the pc though.

Although I do wonder what would happen to large corporations, would loose a lot of money if everyone didnt come on the internet for just one day??? That would be a good enough reason in itself lol.

From Mon-Fri, my PC is my livelihood and if I shut down for a day, I would not only lose money for that day but also valued clients who rely on me. Not an option I am afraid but at least I dont use transport to get to work every day & I dont take up much more electricity than I normally would, but we do buy our electricity from a company that sells energy from natural sources. As my work is digital and electronic, I dont have costly postal or transport issues, nor do I go and visit my clients. So, in my opinion, my business is reasonably friendly but cut my leccy off and Im a gonna!.

Blessings

Lil

I think the internet and PC is a life line for so many people. I work with blind and partially sighted people and house bound people many of whom who could not access information very easily without it: everything from shopping, reading for pleasure and for daily life, to paying their bills, earning a living via the computer, accessing music easily, socialising and communicating independently. Technology is amazing, the internet has changed lives wooohoooooo!
