Date Posted: 17/03/07 23:18 Heee-hee... Just indulging in that mischievous sense that one who will eat anything has when suggesting a menu...! Dolmathes are stuffed vine leaves, usually stuffed with rice and onion. Skorthalia is potato mashed with (lots of) garlic and served cold as a sort of relish or sauce. The last time I ate it the ratio was 15 cloves of garlic to 3 potatoes, but it doesn't have to be that strong. Yigantes are butter beans, baked and often served in a spicy sauce. Houmous is a dip/spread made of chickpeas, garlic and olive oil. Tzatziki is also a dip/spread, made of Greek yoghurt, cucumber and olive oil. Baklavas is a very sweet pastry, constructed out of filo, stuffed with nuts (often pistachios) and pretty well drowned in honey. Retsina is wine flavoured with pine resin. Mavrodaphne is a red wine, unusual for reds in that it is sweet. Some of the above may well sound unappetizing, but it is actually very tasty. Not that I'm averse to chocolate - preferably with no less than 70% cacao. Ellinas. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
