Yes, I am involved in both activities. I am all for what is being proposed. I shant say much about the permanent tribute as yet, until we have some definite information to share. The newspaper didnt say much because, basically, we introduced the idea briefly, and all park district board members received a copy of the 12-page proposal. Thus, the reporter did her job as she saw fit.

I plan to have a display of my DF memorabilia at the Fall Festival at Glen Oak Park. I have made up a number of "shadow box" type displays (along with the help of my amazing niece-in-law)...for example...

One has the Home Free LP cover, a 45, an eight track, a cassette tape, a CD single, and Cd...sort of music thru the decades.

Another is of the Hard Rock Cafe...I have three pins from the (now closed) cafe in Iceland, which had a cream Gibson guitar.

All three of the Red Herring LP's will be shown, as well as the Coachmen 45.

Three books...Summer Tour 1977, Exiles Tour, and Photographs by Dan.

Tour mugs, keychains, tee shirts...

My son picked me up a copy of the "Cowboy Painting" in Nederland and I have that framed. I also have a display about the Pioneer Inn...most of that info has been around on the internet...I believe Brett has that posted.

Dan played this bandshell back in August, 1975, and I have a display of the original flyer and the Peoria article covering it. That night he won "Best New Male Artist" from The Rock Music Awards. I have attempted to find out what those awards were, but no luck at this point. I do have a small article from the LA Times announcing the winners of said awards.

This is way more than you probably wanted to know...so I shall close for now...

Diney, good for you for working towards having Dan honored in these ways. In the city I live in we have a statue of Stevie Ray Vaughn. It's on a major hike and bike trail that runs along the Colorado River (or Lady Bird Lake...it's the same thing through this area), and I've been stopped several times by folks who are visiting and who want to find the statue. There are often flowers left there, too. Here's a link to a photo of it http://austin.about.com/cs/tours/l/blvt_tl_vaughan.htm

WOW! That is so awesome! Thanks for sharing that! And, thanks for the kind words.

As far as putting the Fall Family Festival together at Glen Oak Park, I had nothing to do with that...other than offering my memorabilia for showing. Its put on by Live Music Peoria...have you seen the website which gives all the details?

Thanks Diney. It's nice that you're going to display some of your Dan things at the festival. Sounds like you've got quite a lot there.

And good luck with your commemoration proposal. In reading the comments on that article, I noticed a lot of negative comments about the Richard Pryor proposal, but nothing about Dan. Don't know if that's a good sign or not, but I hope you get some community support.

Does anyone know if it is possible to order the Cowboy poster on the phone or online? I couldn't even get the site for the Inn. Kept coming up not available. Maybe they don't have one.

Nancy, I don't think they have a website, only a myspace page, and it's not very helpful. It would probably be best to give them a call.

Pioneer Inn 303-258-7733

In case that number is no good, you could try this one that was used for tickets to their Dan Tribute show 303-258-7075

And here's a link to their myspace page:

Good luck,

Kelly

This was my experience...I had found an email address for Bunny. I wrote to her twice and no response. I honestly cannot remember if I phoned the Inn or not. Luckily, my son and daughter-in-law were in the area, hiking at Caribou Ranch Open Space, and took the time to stop in for me and purchase the wonderful copy.

On a side note, I had been to the Pioneer Inn twice. I was fortunate enough to take a photo of the painting as it hung on the wall. I believe the employees shared with me that once Dan was diagnosed, Bunny took the painting down for safe keeping.

It was really marvelous of her to have copies made and be available for sale at the Nederland tribute.

Good Luck!

I'll give it a shot..if I get or hear anything I'll post it for others. Thanks for the information. It's a bit far from NJ for a road trip right now. Someday hope to make it. I would love to see the stomping grounds.
