Don't Lose Heart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxB2jUErffU

This life is heartless and it's rarely just
Full of sad betrayals and misplaced trust
And it can suck your spirit just as dry as dust
And steel your soul if you let it

Ooh every life contains its sorrows and pains
Its stormy weather and its rough terrains
You watch me wrestle with my length of chain
And smile so bravely as you tell me

Don't lose heart, don't lose heart
Though it feels like yours will fall apart
Just remember when the road gets dark
I will always be beside you

Well, I spend my life pursuing fortune and fame
Chasing rainbows in a shadow game
And I'm not sure what I've lost is worth the gain
Or why my soul remains so restless

You've seen me stumble, Lord, you've seen me fall
You shared my triumphs and you've seen me crawl
When I think that I could lose it all
You give me courage and you tell me

Don't lose heart, don't lose heart
Though it feels like yours will fall apart
Just remember when the road gets dark
I will always be beside you

When the road gets rocky, and the ride gets rough
And the best you got to give ain't good enough
There will always be a place inside my love
Where you can find shelter, where you can find shelter

Ooh every life contains its sorrows and pains
Its stormy weather and its rough terrains
You watch me wrestle with my length of chain
And smile so bravely as you tell me

Don't lose heart, oh don't lose heart
Though it feels like yours will fall apart
Just remember when the road gets dark
I will always be beside you
Well, I will always be beside....beside you

Thanks Dan.
Love and peace to Jean, and to Dan's family, friends, and fans.

Thanks, Kelly, for all the links. From what I can see of the times you posted, you had the same kind of night I had.

I just wanted to share, since you provided the lyrics to "Don't Lose Heart," that the following lines are on the back on my mother's headstone. It took me 15 months to narrow my choice. I think it says it all.

"Just remember when the road gets dark
I will always be beside you"

Hang tight, Everybody. Today might be a bumpy ride.

Mountainbird, I have never looked at those words before............I know I have read them, but never felt them before. My life is kind of crazy right now, I feel them now. Thank you.

Lori, I listened for months while the headstone sat waiting. The front was ready but I refused to have it placed without something of Dan's on the back. He had written so many beautiful and poignant words. I played album after album over and over and then it happened. I was cleaning my house only half listening to songs I knew by heart and that line literally stopped me in my tracks. I had found it. The quotation marks are 8th notes and "Dan Fogelberg" is on its own line at the end. It's beautiful in its mystery. Is it from my mother to me or from me to my mother? To this day I don't have an answer.

Such a beautiful inscription. Seems it was meant to be, since the words found you when you weren't even looking.....maybe the same way they once found Dan. Love your idea for the eighth notes. Perfect choice.

On the way into work this morning (5:05 CST) I punched the cd player and what should come on but Christ the King from the Christmas cd. And the first words I heard were... Lift your heart to the glorious season
Bid all your sorrows be still.

That echoes Jean's sentiments in the last newsletter...enjoy the season because that's what Dan would have wanted.

What a way to start the day.

Thanks Dan.

Terra, I got the willies when I read your post. The minstrel had something to say to you on this very special day. Thanks for sharing.

What a sweet moment....and such a beautiful song! It's my favorite from the album. There's just a really special feeling to it. It never fails to lift my heart, and I love singing along to it. Simple lyrics, yet they feel so profound within Dan's glorious melody. It's truly a classic.
