I am really loving the media clippings on the Biography page over at the official site. Most I'd never seen before. They really fill out the picture of a multi-faceted, multi-talented man that was kept so private. I enjoyed his views on music videos in the most recent posting. The idea that his music was so full of imagery intended to stimulate a story or picture in the listener's mind, that a music video would interfere with that. I know that two of his videos suggested storylines ["Go Down Easy" and "She Don't Look Back"]. I thought the video for "She Don't Look Back" was ridiculous. The others just featured Dan and his band[s] playing with a few images thrown in as a break from looking at HIM (like, who needs a break from that?) He described music videos as a vehicle for video directors' careers, not musicians. Do you agree with that? And do you think music videos of Dan's music would interfere with the visual imagery he tried to create with words?

I was watching MTV the very minute is came on the air. I loved it. However, once you have seen a music video, it forever changes the way you see the song. You can never see it "your way".
I have seen all of the Dan videos, I think the one, "She don't look back" is a bit silly. However we see Dan in a different light, he is dancing & skipping down the street ( I did say silly)
The video "go down easy" is a great snow/sking video. The actress in the video has so much make up on she looks like a clown!
I like it better in music videos when I can just see the writer/musicians playing the song, I get to figure out what the song means to me & not how the director sees it.

OH--How I wish music videos were around in the early days of Dan's career!! Then we would have had alot of nice footage of a young Dan playing his guitar and singing right on threu his career!! I'm not into the weird mini-movies of videos today--I want to SEE the artist singing and playing coz concert tickets are too darn expensive-or too far away from to attend!! Does anyone know if Dan was ever on shows like Midnight Special, American Bandstand, Solid Gold, etc???
