Yes! I love that description - (paraphrasing) painting pictures with words and music. I remember reading an interview where he said he's not a poet, but is pretty good at fitting words to music (something like that). I would agree. Many times poetry, at least for me, is too obscure or too vague, or something (can't find the right word). Well, it just doesn't paint a picture for me, is what I mean. I think some poetry tries to convey simplicity with complexity. But then there are all kinds of poetry, and I love some of it, and what is poetry anyway, I suppose we each define it for ourselves.

I suppose my point is, that what Dan does with words and music always paints a picture for me. I doubt it's ever the same picture he had in his mind, but it's my picture. I think that's what really good music does. Or how each of us decides what really good music is. When it touches you in some way, and allows you to feel something that sparks your own pictures in your mind. Maybe I just need simplicity - and like you said, he conveys complexity with simplicity. That works for me.
