Just read a post about this tribute concert on the newsgroup site, and wanted to share it here, in case some don’t read there any more.

I was skeptical at first, but I checked out the guy’s site, and was pleasantly surprised. His name is Eric Folkerth. He’s a musician, a songwriter, and a serious long-time Fogelberg fan. He and another big fan, Rusty King, have put together a group of about twenty musicians, including guitars, vocalists, keyboards, percussion, strings, flutes, and horns, for a special concert playing ALL Fogelberg material. It’s a tribute to the music they love, and a benefit for the United Methodist Community on Relief. The concert is free, but donations are requested.

The show is scheduled for March 31st at 7:00 pm at the Spring Valley United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. If you’re anywhere near Dallas, this sounds like a very cool show to check out. It’s Dan music and a benefit – what have ya got to lose?

Check out Eric’s story about the influence Dan’s music has had on his life and his musical endeavors, and read more about the upcoming concert. It’s worth the read.

Here’s the site address: http://www.ericfolkerth.com//B1082610743/C1059192928/E20060215152644/index.html

This is their planned set list at the moment:

Twin's Theme
Intimidation
Love Gone By
Part of the Plan
Illinois
Same Old Lang Syne
Heart Hotels
Wysteria
Only the Heart May Know
Old Tennessee
Power of Gold
Rhythm of the Rain
Tell Me To My Face

(intermission)

Country Claire
Forever Jung
Netherlands
Longer
Hard to Say
The Last Nail
To the Morning
Stars
Run for the Roses
Leader of the Band
Missing You
The Reach
There's a Place in the World for a Gambler

Sounds pretty good to me. Wish I was close enough to go.

What a wonderful and touching article. I wish I lived anywhere near Dallas. Maybe they'll record it and sell copies. I have to admit, this writer gave me a whole new perspective on "To the Morning." I never saw it in the broader sense of "Life happens no matter what you do, so you might as well embrace it." I also appreciate the way these guys have kept this firmly in the category of a tribute concert, not a nostalgia concert or cover band type of event. I wish more people could appreciate Dan's artistry this way.

If anyone's interested in how the tribute show turned out, here's a link to Eric's blog post of pictures and commentary from their "magical night".

It sounds like it went very well. They had a good turn out, raised some money for a good cause, and it seems everyone had a great time. He hints that there may be some audio or video clips to listen to later on.

It really makes me feel good to know that there are good people out there, musicians even, that feel such a strong connection to Dan's music that they would go to this extent to honor his music. We don't often hear from very many of Dan's fans, so it's nice to know others love his music as much as we do.
