The May 2007 FMBB(Federation Mondiale du Berger Belge, website is http://www.fmbb.net) held in Torquet, France. This event consists of IPO, Agility, as well as Mondio Ring for Belgian Shepherds.

From what I heard/seen I think it was an overall lack of skill and experience by the helpers that caused the injuries to the dogs, there were over a half dozen recorded to be hurt from mild injuries up to broken bones. The judge was seen working with the helpers on the days before protection was taking place. At a world event there should be no concern about the helpers abilities, with the nerves and adrenaline of a trial coming into play these boys have to be very ready to step out there! No time for last minute training sessions, you either know what you are doing or you don't. Even the best helpers have a mishap or stumble and perhaps even fall on occassion but to injure 12 or so dogs in a single event is inexcusable! Unlike Ring where the decoy moves out of the way on the long bites, in IPO the helper is supposed to run through the dog without skipping a beat! That in itself take a ton of experience, not many helpers are even seen doing that

With any sport there are risks but by having well trained and conditioned dogs and helpers any risk should be minimal.

Malinois are noted to be fast but I have seen German Shepherds, American Pit Bull Terriers, Airedales, Schanuzers, Doberman, Bouviers, American Bulldogs come in just as quickly(of course not as often as in the Mals) and any good Schutzhund dog hits center mass.

In the first video I am posting it was on a drive and not the courage test that a dog had its leg busted..

Even in this second video you will see where a dog's leg is injured, not on a courage test or fast entry but on an escape bite. Again piss poor helper work is the cause.
