Hi, on your info:

---I have been doing some research and many
woman can start gaining weight up to 14 days ahead of
time. ----

This is really rare, the weight does not dissappear when the bleeding begins, it starts disappearing slowly.

---I alsocame across a research study that shows that this
increase in metabolic rate in menstruating women is
not universal---

The thing I mentioned is not about metabolism rate increase, it is about the ability of your body to take in fat (not proteines or carbs) Your body needs certain hormones to take in fat and because of the hormonal process in your body at that time of the month the fat-intake process gets distorted with a rate of about 0.33. It is true though that for most woman their metabolism increases when having their period. If you want to know if your metabolism increases you can try to take your temperature everyday for a month, (at the same time of day, the morning is best) if you see an increase at the time of your period (dont expect a big one just a little increase) you can assume that your metabolism increases. This method is not a 100% accurate but it is a very good indicator.

Hope this explains things.
