Yes, that is possible. If you eat less than 800 calories a day you cannot sleep (this counts for 70% of the people and the 800 cals is on average) This is because your body is in starvation mode. Your body assumes that if you are in a situation where you deprive it of food there is probably something else very dangerous going on. Simply put, you cannot eat because you are being followed by a bear/tiger/lion for days. Your body will not let you sleep because it thinks it has to be on the watch for something and if it would go to sleep it would risk being attacked so it stays awake. (this is the explanation I give to the children I work with, in medical terms it has to do with the hormones that come free when you are in starvation mode, but basically this is the story)

I dont know if you drink a lot of caffeine but this could hold you out of sleep too. Things that help me get to sleep:
- do not exercise at least 2 hours before you go to bed
- dont drink coffee tea or cola at least 4 hours before you go to bed
- eat a little bit right before you go to bed
- take a very hot shower
