Author: W'ntyr -- Garneth, Elatyr
Subject: The sun comes up,
In reply to: Elaini (Rishanath) and Twins 's message, "The lights go out all around me..." on 12:37:30 07/26/05 Tue

W’ntyr realised that he probably looked nervous, and when Elaini opened the door, he swallowed nervously. It was the first time he’d seen her in three months – and all he felt like doing was falling to his knees and begging her to take him back. But he wasn’t going to do that. At least, not yet. The bronzerider felt like a rabbit transfixed by a tunnel-snake – he stared at his former weyrmate for a moment, just drinking in the sight of her, standing there.

But then she moved towards him, throwing herself into his arms, and he pulled her close, hugging her as tightly as she was hugging him. The bronzerider buried his face in her hair, incapable of doing anything except hold her, never really wanting to let her go. He was shocked to feel the swelling of her waistline, stiffening against her momentarily and pulling back to look into her eyes before he moved his gaze to her stomach, the unspoken question written plainly on his face.

A cry from the bed behind Elaini caught his attention, and W’ntyr crossed in quick strides to where the twins lay, wrapped in their blankets. He didn’t want to leave Elaini’s embrace, but he had missed his children as much as he had missed her, and he looked back at the greenrider before he looked down at them. Elatyr gazed up at him solemnly, struggling a little, and he bent to pick her up, his movements almost dreamlike. W’ntyr held his daughter close, stroking red-brown hair from her eyes. She had his eyes – calm, slate grey – but her mother’s hair. It was too early to tell who she would take after, but she seemed to have her father’s bone structure. “Little El, how are you?” There was no reply, of course – Elatyr couldn’t talk yet – but she looked back at him with natural seriousness.

“Elaini…” At last he could bring himself to meet her eyes, still cradling his daughter as if she were made of glass. “I…I missed you so much…”
