Summer Solstice Sweat Lodge and Gathering

with

Carl Big Heart

June 19, 20th
At the Ashokan Center
Olivebridge, NY

Saturday's Sweat Lodge Schedule:
(information concerning Sunday's Gathering below - Come both days if you can, and either day if you can’t)

10:30 AM: Build and light fire, and cover the lodge. There will be an orientation for those who are new to the sweat lodge ceremony and an opportunity to make prayer ties to focus our prayers and intentions.

1 PM: Crawl into the sweat lodge

Evening: The pot luck which follows the lodge is a part of the ceremony and one we provide for together. So please bring nourishing prepared dishes that are ready to serve: main dishes, salads, fruits, etc. Food can be dropped off for the day in the Pewter Shop.
Note: Bring your own plates, utensils and serving utensils, as none will be provided. There is no kitchen on the premises for heating or refrigerating food.

What to bring:
2 gallons of drinking water – one for yourself and one to share with the community.
2 towels
Sweat lodge clothing:
For women: modest skirt or sarong and short sleeve top or dress. For men: shorts (and shirt if you like)
Food for the pot luck
**Drink plenty of water. Fruit and juice make a good late morning snack if you are not fasting prior to the lodge.

Where:
Up the hill from the Pewter Shop. See directions below

Sunday Gathering: 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM in the Pewter Shop.
In circle we bring our hearts and minds together with sacred drumming and songs, teachings stories, and sharing.

Registration for the weekend (Pewter Shop):
There will be donation baskets for expenses (fire wood and basic supplies) and for Carl Big Heart, along with a waiver to sign and a separate $11 land-use fee that Ashokan requires.

Carl Big Heart works by donation.
Please, let us together support the important and valuable work of our elders by being as generous as we can. That being said, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Lodging:
$10/night camping (weather permitting) and $15/night dormitory lodging are available on site. Contact Little Crow at bigheartcircle@gmail.com to reserve a bed before June 10th

Note:
The lodge starts the moment we commit to going to the ceremony and can have active effects in our lives. Setting aside time each day for a few days prior to the lodge to focus our prayers and intentions is suggested.

Directions to Ashokan:

From the NY Thruway (I87) take Kingston Exit 19 and follow the sign to Route 28 West / Pine Hill (quick right after the toll).

If coming from Ellenville or Rhinebeck, go west at the cloverleaf intersection of Routes 209 and 28.

Continue on Route 28 West for 11.5 miles to the hamlet of Shokan. Turn left at Winchell's Pizza (red building on left) onto Reservoir Road. (Also, an arrow sign on your right for "Olivebridge 4 Miles" points left for Reservoir Road.) Cross the Ashokan Reservoir Bridge and continue to the stop sign. Turn left at the stop sign onto Monument Road. This is just after passing between stone buildings on the bridge. This road bears downhill to the right and by staying to the right you will merge with route 28A. You will immediately enter the complex of buildings for the Ashokan Reservoir. Within this complex you will come to the intersection of 28 A and Beaverkill Road. Turn left onto Beaverkill Road, go aprox 2 miles and turn right into the Ashokan main entrance. Inside the entrance take the first right and follow it to the large parking lot which is at the bottom of the first hill. Park there and follow the signs to the Pewter Shop.
