Dear Kev

do not stress all is not lost

Re diesel in the motor,

on the premiss that the engine has not been run for any duration( half an hour say) on a diesel petrol mix
then do the following

Flush fuel lines and replace filter

drop the engine oil as I've had this get contaminated with diesel in a petrol engine just by cranking iyt over for 10 mins trying to start it untill the penny dropped(rover v8 20 years ago destroyed the main bearings and cam followers)and the damage takes a few hundred miles to show itself as the oil dosn't do it's job too well once dieseled.
Pull the plugs and put a tea spoon of oil in each bores leave five mins and cramnk over for 30 seconds WITH THE PLUGS OUT, it will spit the oil out but crucialy it will coat the bores with new oil rather than a diesel wash.
put new oil/ fuel and filters in, cross fingers, pray, dance a jig and fire her up (it will smoke like an autum leaf fire for a bitif you have acat fitted drop it for the first run)), you should be fine if not and engine rattles then sorry but you in the brown and you will have a strip her down but don't jump in at the deep end as these simple tips may save you a lot of time and money. By all means call me 07710 670298 4 years with BMW 5 years on my own and 3 race championship builds in the past I don't know all answers but have got away with worse on a few occasions good luck and see you at the start
