Spike and Peter (Crowther), I have discussed this issue with both of you, and many others. At every drivers briefing the importance of driving slowly through villages and built up areas is emphasized. Spike, for me one of the pleasures of driving abroad is the fact I'm less likely to have a speed gun pointed at me. I'm sure many who come on GOME events feel the same way. We prefer to rely on drivers controlling themselves, and if they forget then their navigator should remind them. After all they are just as responsible for controlling the cars pace.

Having now completed the route recce for 2009 I can confirm the overall average has come down. Mind you in true Guild of Motor Endurance tradition it's one hell of a route and promises to be a tough four day event. One paticularly tight one hour long section at altitude has an average speed of 12mph, which may prove to be too fast! The format has changed slightly to make the event less competitive but more of a challenge.
