WELSH NATIONAL FIREWORK CHAMPIONSHIPS ANNOUNCED

Chepstow has been selected to host the Welsh National Firework Championships.

The event is being launched as part of the British Firework Championships, now one of the largest professional firework displays held annually in the UK, and will take place at Chepstow Racecourse on Saturday 5th May.

Organised by The Event Services Association (TESA), a trade body for the UK event industry which has its offices in Chepstow, the Championships will involve three major displays by professional firework display companies all of whom operate within Wales.

Expected to be one of the biggest firework spectacles ever seen within the country, the event is expected to grow over the next couple of years to become one of the biggest ‘Wow!’ events in South Wales.

The winner of the competition will be invited to represent Wales at the British Firework Championship final in Plymouth on 14th/15th August, 2007.

The organisers are also planning to build a range of entertainments around the competition, including live music in partnership with Red Dragon radio and a fun fair.

Says TESA Director Jim Winship: “We are particularly pleased that we are able to bring this event to Chepstow, our own home town.

“Not only will people be able to enjoy some fantastic fireworks but we are also planning a whole host of other family entertainments so that people can make an evening of it.”

The British Firework Championships, which have taken place in Plymouth for the last 10 years, are now the largest annual display in the UK attracting crowds of some 200,000 over two nights. Last year the organisers also broke the world record for the number of rockets fired in one go when 56,645 officially took to the air over Plymouth winning accreditation from Guinness World Records™.

“Although we do not envisage anything like the numbers attending in Chepstow as we get in Plymouth, we are taking the precaution of putting tickets on sale early in March on a first come basis so that we can control take-up within the limits of the racecourse,” says Jim Winship.

Details of how tickets can be obtained will appear on the www.britishfireworks.co.uk website shortly.

Further information about the event can be obtained from TESA on 01291 636338
