Hi, regarding the cafe my cousin Pauline James used to work there.
re- bertha Chick although I did not know her, my mother Mary James from 10 Bright street spoke of her and her newspapers.

A relative of mine, Dai Jones, my grandmother's brother owned the club just down from the railway station- I believe he had two sons- I would appreciate any news of them.

With regards to the memories of the Crosskeys cafe and Bertha Chick. i used to live in Xkeys from 1942 to about1952
when i was 4years old to 12years of age, and i am sorry to say that i pestered Joe Cavacutti something terrible,(i did not relise it at the time) although Joe was always very patient with me, he and his wife were very kind and hepful to me. As for Bertha Chick she and i would, all weathers, stand on the bus stop waiting for the bus to bring the Argus from Newort and drop them off outside Joes cafe then we would use the cafe windowsill tosell them, and i would get my quota of papers for my delivery round. She was a kind lady and never said a bad word about anyone.

I lived in Crosskeys between 1943 until the early 60s and certainly remember "Mrs" Chick. I was also inerested in the name Farley and seem to remember my mother referring to you as the the Farley boys or the Farley brothers? May be a large family. My father ran a local business including the ironmongers Lush & Thomas. Any update would be fascinating.

I remember Bertha Chick. My auntie, Emma Potter, lived at 38 Tredegar Street and they used to sell fruit, vegetables, flowers and bedding plants from their allottment. Bertha used to come there to buy stuff.
