As far as Yima is concerned, anyone under twenty Turns of age is a child. She'd really like to set a lower limit - sixteen, while not ideal, would be good enough - but with the Weyr right there, and the current state of Pern, she doubts she'll be able to do that for a long time. For now, she'll only turn out those who are unsuited for the provisional Craft, which she'd do no matter the age, unless they're very young indeed. Twelve sounds good, she mutters silently in the back of her own mind. Telomm seems to have some sense in his head, and that wher seems to be taking to him, so I'll keep him, but from now on I'll ask for twelve or older. I really need to talk to the Weyrleaders. They have that clutch on the Sands, so maybe I'll slip in during their Hatching Feast. A tenative plan in mind, the woman returns her attention to both mapping the wall and listening to Keao. Children are always inclined to ramble, and so Yima lets her babble everything out before trying to speak. "Yes, we have a few blind wher-handlers," she allows. "Not that being blind automatically qualifies you, mind. It's not Impression, it's nothing like Impression- aaach, I'll explain it all later, when we have more potential handlers for Ghysk's clutch." Her hand skids on a sharp edge, and she stops, pulling Keao to a halt, before releasing the girl and feeling about a bit more. Seems like a ledge.... Grabbing the edge with both hands, Yima pulls herself up. Sure enough it's a ledge, a fair-sized one big enough for at least two whers and their handlers, possibly even three pairs if they don't take up too much space. And she can stand upright on it, even. This might be useful. For now, though, she only makes a mental note, hopping off and seizing Keao's wrist again as she continues along the wall. "For now, though, you can stay as an Apprentice and learn about watchwhers while we wait for Ghysk to clutch, but remember that you're on trial. If I decide that you don't have what it takes, I will ask you to leave." She pauses, then releases Keao and continues along on her own. "Now, tell me how old you are and then run back to the others. Introduce yourself to them, if you like. I have to start mapping this cave system before I can go much further."
