Subject: Soa Otuvaka

I note with interest that there is no mention of the death of an ex Manchester player on the main website. Soa, when at Manchester was a joy to watch, he was sadly missed when he departed the club and is now sadly missed by all.

Soa Otuvaka Benefit Match
Newcastle Falcons versus Global Chiefs
At Kingston Park Stadium on Saturday 10th April 2004
6.30pm kick off

Soa Otuvaka, who passed away on Monday 29th March and who was a contracted player with Newcastle Falcons fought a 10-month battle against a Grade-4 brain tumour and his Falcons team mates have been working hard all season with fundraising efforts for Soa's family; wife Jenny and children Eric (age 3) and Lily (age1. This has been through raffles at Newcastle Falcons home games this season with the Benefit Match being the highlight of a season of fundraising efforts.

Match tickets are priced at £10 (no concessions) for seat/terrace on a first-come, first serve basis with the Top Tier West Stand tickets priced at £20 (again, no concessions). Ticket sales are going well and we are confident of a good crowd for what proposes to be an emotional but thoroughly enjoyable evening’s entertainment. Outlined below is the proposed list of events leading up to and on the match day itself: -

· Newcastle Falcons will be playing an invitation side named the Global Chiefs who are made up from some illustrious names in both Rugby Union and Rugby League, such as Martin Johnson (Leicester and England), Zinzan Brook (Harlequins/All Black), Jason Robinson (Sale/England), Leslie Vainikolo and Tevita Vaikona (Bradford Bulls) and ex-Falcons: Inga Tuigamala, Doddie Weir, Gary Armstrong and George Graham*.

It was a very sad day on Saturday when as a club we heard of Soa's passing. Soa was a much loved player at Manchester rugby club, and the people who had the pleasure of knowing and/or playing with him will miss him dearly, and remember him fondly.

I believe that we have a couple of representatives who are able to attend the game at Newcastle... If anyone would like to donate to the fundraising efforts, can I suggest that they take their donations to the club before the end of the week, so that these can be taken up to Newcastle on Saturday.

Our sincere Sympathy and thoughts are with Jenny and the children at this time.
