I worked at the Scarsdale Plaza Theater on Garth Road; it was torn down, and apartment buildings were built in its place. Lots of protests about that, and because the theater had been vacant (unused) on and off during the years, businesses left the street. Sad that someone couldn't refurbish it (the interior was lush, with heavy burgundy curtains, and a theatrical stage) and keep it going. Garth Road was the forgotten child, it seems; didn't anyone realize that when a movie ends at 10 or 11 p.m., people frequent area eateries, peer in windows, etc.? One bookstore closed due to lack of business; I loved browsing there for hard-to-find reads.
