According to the Journal News, Dan Valle (Mr. Westchester) passed away in May 2008. The obit said there was a son named Daniel who predeceased him two surviving children, Jim and Marie. Jim was a classmate of mine (class of '72) and he helped me out when I had aspirations of becoming a disc jockey. Jim had the overnight time slot at WHUD in Peekskill and he allowed me to use one of the studios where they made commercials so I could put together an audition tape. (I never made it on the air) When I walked in the studio and saw 2 professional Ampex reel to reel tape recorders I went back home and got my 12 string guitar. Instead of putting together an audition tape I recorded 2 original songs I wrote, complete with overdubbed harmonies. If anyone knows where Jim is today I'd like to write or speak to him to thank him for his generosity. Those recordings are among my most prized possessions so even though I never made an air worthy audition tape it was not time wasted. On a different note, up until about 1965 or 1966 there was no fence and we used to go sleigh riding at Leewood Golf Course. There was one long hill by the Bronx River Parkway where, if you didn't stop in time, you ended up in a small brook. I can still recall seeing kids sleigh riding and also riding on those silver discs down the large hill at the curve of Leewood Drive across from the field and tennis courts. No one ever considered suing anyone if they fell off their sled or wound up in the brook, as that was just part of the adventure. It truly was the best of times.
