• Not so, not possible. You may have looked at a column other than the one applicable to someone with 20 years commissioned service. I assure you, promotion from 05 over 20 to 06 over 20 carries with it a nice raise. NOW - if you're transferred to a duty station lcoation with a lower cost of living in that area, you housing allowance could decrease, thus your total pay could go down.   • Base pay for a CDR (05) with 20 years service (Harm was commissioned in 1985, pretend this is the 2005 pay chart vice 2011): $8070 per month; a CAPT (06) with 20 years commissioned service makes $9223 per month. This is taxable income. He also gets two non-taxable allowances, one for subsistence that is a flat rate, and one for housing that varies by your duty station's zip code. I don't know about ficathons (mostly because I'm not sure there's enough interest out there to make another one work), and as for Legacies - I stare at those blasted binders on a daily basis and try to figure out just what, exactly, I'm going to do about that particular project. • I don't have the dialogue, but I do have a suggestion. I've been in your place before, and it's easier copy down the dialogue if you set your TV to show the captions. I also transcribe the dialogue directly onto my computer, that way I can cut & paste it into my story. As for ideas, I have a file full of them on my computer, but no time to write. • It's a funny world! I'm just the opposite--when I'm given a topic or idea, like in the ficathons, I can write the story. • I thought the problem was officers fraternizing with enlisted. Since they are both officers, I don't think it would matter if one is higher than the other, if they're not in the same chain of command.
