I've flown on 10 flights (in a row) from Germany to Oki w/our
cat IN the cabin... It was tough enough w/a cat, as the crate
that is required is soooooo small: Can't take them out..
really shouldn't feed anything but "nibbles"... too much water
is an issue as well...etc. Our cat did well... however if it were
my dog, I can imagine the emotional difficulty of looking at my
dog's sweet face knowing they're hungry, need to "go", or
uncomfortable...and being unable to do anything.

Personally.... my advice would be to choose to have them fly
in the cargo/luggage area (where it is pressurized/temp controlled)
and be able to give them
a larger kennel space where, on such a long flight, they can at least
move around somewhat, and even "go" if they need to. On the non-
ocean flights (within the U. S.) that are only a few hours long, I would
have the dog IN the cabin... does this make sense? Just check the
unused kennel as baggage...then switch them. :o)

Be sure to call the airlines yourself to confirm your pet's
space on the flight! :)
