Cindy Wright

Age: 19

Vital statistics: 35-24-35

Height: 5' 11'

Occupation: Model

Sponsor: Miss Captain's

Bakery

Why did you decide to enter the competition?

I decided to enter because I think that it would be a good opportunity, a lot of exposure and I think that a lot of doors could open for me and opportunities for me to get involved with my country.

What is your definition of a beauty queen?

A beauty queen is someone that is not only beautiful, but also very strong and has her head on her shoulders and knows where she wants to go in life.

What do you expect to achieve by entering the competition?

You learn a lot about self confidence and grooming. You learn a lot about yourself and also achieve a lot of friendships from the girls that are in the competition.

What is your best asset?

My best asset is my eyes. I have green eyes. None of my parents have green eyes, none of my brothers. I think I got it from my grandfather or great grandfather, so I'd have to say that's a very special treat.

How would you sell Jamaica to a foreigner in light of the high crime rate?

Despite the crime rate, this is still the most beautiful place to live. The food is great, the music is internationally known. There is no way you can come to Jamaica and not have a good time. There is always something going on.

What do you love the most about Jamaica?

I love the beaches. Ever since I was a baby I've been going to Lime Cay every Sunday. So I definitely love the beaches. I love the water.

If you could meet one person, who would it be and why?

I think I'd want to meet Tyra Banks. Because I think she is a very strong woman and she has done so much with her career and I could learn a lot from her.

If you win, what sector of the society would you work with?

I would work with children. I love children. Ever since I was young, I wanted to own my own day care and when I was in high school, I used to work with the SOS Children's Village. I used to play with them and help them to read. Even now, I tend to get more involved with children.

If you were the Prime Minister, what changes would you make and how?

I would try to build more opportunities for young people, opportunities like schooling. Everybody would have a fair opportunity to go to college, more jobs.

What do you hope to achieve in five years?

In five years, hopefully, I will have my degree in fashion merchandising, and to be successful in the modeling industry. I also hope to be an international model; to be successful in whatever career path I am in. Hopefully, I'd have my own house by then

Subject: Wendy Speaks out: Former Miss U underfire

Author:
safia
[Edit]

Date Posted: 17:00:00 03/23/06 Thu

Wendy Fitzwilliam refers, in conversation, to what was, up to now,

the watershed experience of her life as "Universe"

Q: Congratulations. How has your pregnancy changed your life?

A: Unbelievably, and in the most positive way. I've not been sick so far. [Giggles] I take this humongous responsibility very seriously. I won't do anything more significant. Unlike most other things you do, there's no second chance. When you find out you've failed [chuckles] it's a little too late.

You see your kid on the ID parade or the stripper's pole?

[Laughing] Exactly! You don't get a second choice.

It would be disingenuous to say you're glowing because you were before; you must be spontaneously combusting?

[Laughing] Thank you! I'm very pleased. I'm not a child. These are choices I've made, to have a baby now, to do so in Trinidad, to not get married, fully aware of what the consequences would be. My travel manager during Universe, Linda, when I was really nervous about being able to live up to the pedestal Trinidadians had put me on, said, "Wendy, being you got you here! Being you is going to have to take you through the rest of your life!" So that's my guiding principle.

There are aspects of me some people will love and things about me a few won't. I hope we can respect and move on. Trinidadians are brutally honest in their opinions and that's something I appreciate.

It informs who I am and who Trinidadians are. That is part of what makes [us] special.

You weren't that careful about when and where you made the announcement itself though?

Yes. I chose very deliberately to disclose my pregnancy though not to Corpus Christi College specifically. I made it very clear to the Guardian that I would inform Trinidad and Tobago that I was expecting my first child. I honestly don't feel responsible to adult Trinidad and Tobago for anything. The life of a celebrity for adults is primarily for entertainment. This week people enjoy talking about Wendy, Brian, Brad-gelina [giggling]. With young people, you do have some influence. I have always felt a responsibility to young people and that's why I chose that forum.

Still, is a girls' Catholic school really a good place for an unwed mother to be talking about condoms?

Yes! Have you any idea of how many young unwed mothers come out of a Catholic school? [Laughs] I'm a practising Catholic

You don't seem to have got the hang of some bits?

[Laughs] I take my faith seriously. I agree with many things the church stands for but there are also things that I do not agree with.

I have never made a secret of that. I've always been very frank in my position, if you go back to reels of the Paul & Nikki Show, about responsible sexual behaviour. There was one thing I thought I was slightly misquoted on in my presentation at Corpus Christi College and that was my position on marriage. While, in theory, I think marriage is an absolutely beautiful institution, in practice, [chuckling] I've not seen that. I know of only one truly successful union where both parties respect each other. I'm not saying my decision is right for anybody else. I'm at a stage in my life where I can, if need be, give my child the kind of attention, support, love, on my own. Divorce isn't rampant now; in my mind, divorce always happened: the man separated from the wife in the home. The pressure to not respect the institution of marriage is tremendous. A horn is a horn only if you take it orn. You see where I'm coming from? I want to get married but will not for any other reason than I feel I've stood the test of time in a relationship. My partner is a wonderful human being, has all of the right qualities. But this is Wendy's I'm not sure if "insecurities" is the right word or "jaded" either. I'm just cautious. I'm the product of a broken home, which was very traumatic for my sister and me. My parents' divorce was enough! I'm not living through that again.

I don't want to be insensitive but the Express carried a report that your partner has a child with a former Miss Jamaica?

Um-hum. To whom he was married.

Do we see a pattern emerging here?

[Laughing delightedly] Yes and no. [Chuckling] That says to me that he has good taste. Additionally, I've learnt to focus on how you treat me! I was never a trophy woman before so, yes, I'll admit, after Universe, it was exceptionally difficult dealing with trophy girl status. If I'm on a date and the phone rings and my date says into the phone, "Oh, I'm having dinner with Wendy Fitzwilliam", that's the last date! [Chuckles] The example [my partner] has given thus far says totally differently to me. He's not the first guy I've dated who's dated a former beauty queen. In fact, it's hard, when you get to my age to find a man who has not dated a beauty queen or model. Even if it's Miss Strawberry Patch in Arkansas!

You played your Miss Universe success well because you're

sensible but are beauty pageants good for most women?

Yes, in moderation. They really do train young women in many of the social graces that get you ahead, whether it's a job interview, a relationship. You really do [become] a little more worldly. It is the equivalent of a finishing school for the elite. BC, before I got into [it], not in a million years did I think I would be either Miss Trinidad & Tobago or Miss Universe. In fact, when they tried to introduce Miss Cave Hill at the UWI, my girlfriend and I, who had been nominated to represent the faculty of law, derailed pageants completely. I felt, very much like most people, that they were demeaning and archaic. There is entertainment and there's a very shallow side: it's all about YOU! You being gorgeous, fabulous, fake.

Pageants can emphasise what is ugly about being a woman: the super vanity, the cattiness. But the flip side is, it does open up a world of opportunity. Warner Brothers signed me to a development deal off of two lines I sang at Miss Universe. It took Alicia Keys seven years and she's a real super-musician.

There are advantages to

be had but that was true of

slavery; are beauty pageants good for women?

Yes! I think so. Not if you start too early. From age three your mother's dragging you to pageants and the family is obsessed with spending all their money to make sure you're cute. My experience has been really, really good. This is someone who came from the position that, "No way! Intelligent people don't do that! " I understood there was much more to pageantry than standing up on stage in a swimsuit or pretty dress. It is definitely a way to jump-start careers. The women at Universe recognise that. The prize package is nice, yes, but it's the start of. India is a country of one point something billion.

If a Bollywood producer has an open call for a movie part, there will be 60,000 applicants. That's the average! What are your chances if you are just Lara Dutta? But if you are Lara Dutta, Miss Universe 2000, scripts will be coming at you! Pageants, at least the ones worth their salt, have evolved.

It remains important, then, having been Miss Universe?

To me? Not really. Actually, it is. It's an experience I'll never be able to live down, so I don't try to. If I discover the cure for Aids tomorrow as Dr Wendy Fitzwilliam, it will be reported as, [chuckling] "Former Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam " [Laughs] I treat it as a great temporary job that created opportunities I would not otherwise have had but that's all it is. There is a very clear line between that experience and who I am. Unfortunately, some title- holders see it as the be all and end all, the ultimate achievement.

No, no, no. That's the start of. Nelson Mandela didn't stop at getting out of jail and becoming the president of South Africa. He is still doing his bit.

You know you're giving me

a special delight: the beauty queen mentioning Nelson Mandela; it's like, "Who is your favourite man but you can't say, 'Nelson Mandela'?

[Laughing] Well, yes, he is! What is remarkable about him is he is so humble. I find most truly successful people are. I met him in '99, during Universe. He was campaigning heavily for the ANC and he made time to visit with me all afternoon, ask about the West Indies cricket team, he'd read up on my family, wanted to know more about Mummy and Daddy. Obviously, somebody prepared a brief for him but the point is, during that time, I met so many world leaders and you get a handshake, take a pretty picture and move on. He took on Aids when it was wildly unpopular to even discuss. Bill Gates could be a ruthless businessman I'm sure but, again, another humble human being.

You've chosen to be a good role model?

By being me! That's why I disclosed my pregnancy. I could have done what so many Trinidadian women who want to have kids do: take a leave of absence and gone off to Los Angeles and come back with a cute kid.

That's not me. My public persona reflects who I am. Maybe now my weakness will be highlighted. If I get angry when someone cuts me off on the highway, maybe they'll quickly call you and say, "BC, Wendy just fingered me". I hope I don't project anything other than who I am. All my life I've been the smiley-smiley type. That's my nature.

I like being nice. It takes way too much energy to be ugly. I went through a phase, when my parents were getting a divorce, when I [alternately] loved or couldn't stand [my parents], particularly my father. And I just made up my mind that I couldn't be constantly angry at him. It used up too much energy. That's just not my personality. Don't be Whitney Houston pre-Bobby when you've always been Whitney post-. This is not the product of a media/PR machine.

This is the product of Judy & Noel Fitzwilliam.

Still there will be those who will

say you shouldn't set the example of having a baby outside marriage?

I can't live the rest of my life trying to please 1.3 million people.

It's a very lonely place to be. Talk to Hasely, Brian, Ato. I am now 33 and am finally in a decent relationship. I'm not going to compromise that because 300,000 nationals have a problem with the choices my partner and I make. It's important to be honest with young people.

When I was in form three, Errol Fabien visited St Joseph's Convent.

He was brutally honest about his drug problem. How low he had gone.

He started on the top of the world and actually became a vagrant in San Fernando before he was able to pull himself out. That seriously impacted all of us. When I moved to Los Angeles, you'd walk into a home and there'd be a stack of mirrors and hundred dollar bills and all the cocaine you could consume. The people you grew up admiring on television are the ones doing it. They're not hard-up crackheads.

Errol's sharing definitely informed who I am. So I have a responsibility to give some of that back.
Subject: Faye Miss T&T Universe 2003

Author:
safia
[Edit]

Date Posted: 16:30:52 03/23/06 Thu

It almost feels misleading to call her a "former Miss Universe finalist". Faye doesn't have much to say about her Miss T&T, tiara-wearing days. And she sums it all up execution-style: swift, if not painless.

"It was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed it tremendously because I love travelling and meeting people. Honestly, the pressure you get from your country before leaving for the pageant is overwhelming. Luckily I was practising tai chi and yoga, so I was able to find my natural ground in whatever comess. There was so much confusion. Nobody from the pageant came to Panama to back me, which really didn't matter because my family was there and I could handle myself.

"I learned so much, though. It was a rude awakening. I was naive about just how ugly the world can be. There are people wishing you bad and back-stabbing. I realised how strong I was because I was able to go through it and not be of it. That was a chapter of my life and I've moved on. I don't walk around like I'm a beauty queen and I must be treated a certain way. That's what I don't like about most of our delegates. They tend to be so robotic, so synthetic, put on... Pageantry is not the be all and end all. I have a life and my life is real."

So that's that. There's no more in this story about sashes, stages and stilettoes. Faye is fired up about her new chapter-a tailor-made undergraduate programme that fuses a few of her passions: music, meditation and children. She glides into the newsroom draped in lime green. Flowing, floor-length skirt. Simple sandals. Mala on right wrist. Naked face. Zen-like but entirely approachable.

And she jumps right in: "I'm doing music therapy and child psychology at the Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. I'm working with Dr Sheila Mayers-Johnson to take songs and mantras and teach little children how to use them. It is like tai chi. These forms of meditation bring you into deeper consciousness. The vibration is part of your aura."

And why, pray tell, should a toddler work on her aura? Faye explains that many children are stressed. They can't articulate it, but they feel it. And it balloons from the very beginning.

"When the child is in utero, the mother's experiences and environment affect the child. Whatever the mother thinks, how she acts... the baby feels the same stress," Faye explains. She says that during pregnancy women can expose their children to beneficial, soothing sounds. And once they're out and about, music therapy allows children to tap into the calm themselves.

"It's like programming," she says.

"Programming?"

"Yes, programming. For example, if you really want to talk to kids and have them listen to you, whisper in your child's ear when he's asleep... in the alpha state. You speak to their deeper consciousness. It's best done at a younger age..."

"Really? I've never heard of that."

"You haven't? My mother did it with us."

Faye's experience of family explains her world view. She grew up with five siblings, an Eastern ayurvedic doctor (think acupuncture, reflexology, herbal medicines) for a father and an equally Zen-like mother.

"I have never been to a western doctor. I connect with mother earth. I've been open to this way of living for God knows how long. Everything God gave us is for our benefit. Classic example: if my body feels like its coming down with a flu I have raw garlic and I drink ginger. If my uterus drops I know what to do," she says casually. "Little things like that."

Her beauty fixes come from plants, not jars. Paw paw for a moisturiser. Brown sugar with lemon for a scrub. Faye closed her spa when she left to study, but giving people a holistic experience remains on her list of things to do. ("I love to see people feeling natural and beautiful," her aesthetician self says.)

A strict vegan, she eats "whatever is on the ground and off trees. No flesh. No dairy products. No product produced from an animal". For a while, she adds, she was even a rawist. Nothing cooked. At all. She does lots of juicing. Carrots, beets, ginger, garlic, apples...

"That's a lot of work," I suggest.

"No."

Faye looks forward to working in the US before bringing her expertise home. She is particularly interested in working with children and the differently abled. She remembers learning sign language at age eight. Since then she knew that people with disabilities are talented and unique. And now she more fully understands and deplores how our system leaves their talents untapped. She plans to put her know-how to work for their benefit as well as for her own family, nephews and future children included.

Barbadian saxophonist Arturo Tappin is her fiance. And though it won't happen just yet, she looks forward to marriage and motherhood. Two or three children, she supposes, would be perfect.

"You're Catholic, right? What's your position on birth control?" I ask.

She laughs. "I think birth control is like putting poison in your system."

That's so Faye.

Catholics lay down the law

After Wendy's speech...

Carolyn Kissoon South Bureau
THE CATHOLIC Education Board of Management will be releasing a handbook entitled "Guidelines for Speakers at Catholic Schools" in the wake of statements by former Miss Universe Wendy Fitzwilliam that she is pregnant and unwed during a recent speech at the Corpus Christi College.

Fitzwilliam revealed that she was expecting her first child and that marriage was not in the foreseeable future for her while speaking at the "Guardian in Education's Making a Difference Series" at the Corpus Christi College in Diego Martin on Tuesday.

While not referring to Fitzwilliam specifically, in a release yesterday Archbishop Edward Gilbert said: "The leadership of a Catholic School is not always aware of the content of any speaker's address prior to its delivery to the students."

The Archbishop said that Catholic schools communicate "the teaching of the Church on faith and morals not only through teaching but also by witness". He added that the Church is aware that its teachings are against social trends and it attempts to be faithful to its mission of "education/formation". israel_palestinians_beauty_contest.jpgMiss Seamiline Beauty Queen During my daily scan of news, I came across some interesting photos (here) of the ‘Miss Seamiline’ Beauty Queen contest, which took place in the Israeli town of Gilo, near the West Bank town of Bethlehem, Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005. As the caption of these photos said, the beauty contest intends to promote peace between Israeli’s and Palestinians. The contest included women from the Israeli community of Gilo and the Palestinian village of Beit Jala and East Jerusalem. So far the news clip sound cool and interesting, but what caught my eyes in this photo was the background. Here you see an Israeli soldier and her boyfriend share a moment of passion! But that’s not what matters. The contrast I see in this photo is so ridiculous fact that the Israeli soldier is carrying her automatic machine gun, in an event to promote peace. Sounds funny to me! www.herfactor.comIraqi-American filmmaker and actress Yasmine Hannaney will represent Iraq in the Miss Asia USA Pageant to counter common misconceptions about Iraqis.

THE CONTROVERSIAL Miss Barbados Universe pageant has a new franchise holder since the death last year of fashion designer, Andy Niles.
Candi Nicholls, a trained fashion agent and stylist with a degree in fashion merchandising from the International Fine Arts College of Miami, Florida, is the first woman to have publicly acknowledged having the Miss Universe franchise for this country, following in the footsteps of Jahsareh-H, Vic Fernandes and Aubrey Choy (Jade Inc.), Wayne Smith and Niles.
Nicholls, who applied for the franchise last year, copped it around October from a strong field of contenders, and is now eligible to stage a local contest and prepare a Barbadian representative for the next Miss Universe pageant, tentatively slated for the Republic of China in May.
An understudy of Niles and a stylist for noted fashion designer, Nefertari Caddle, Nicholls, who was also a Miss Barbados runner-up, sees the franchise as a chance to improve the local pageant and fashion industry.
"There's no incentive in local pageantry whatsoever and I want to change that . . . . It's also ridiculous how models here are treated, and someone has to draw the line," she said, noting that the prizes for her show on March 19 at the Wildey Gymnasium would include a car, a cruise and trips.
"It will be an exciting and innovative show; top class. I too have the dreams like Andy to host the Miss Universe show here in Barbados," she added, mentioning plans to forge ties with the "best in the biz" and current connections with Surfside Wellness Centre who will provide the delegates with their fitness training plus the winner with a year's membership.
Nicholls said she was encouraged by ace entertainment/marketing consultant, Phil Phillips, to finally apply for the pageant after toying around with the idea for years. She is now ready for the world; in fact, for the universe.
"I'm prepared to deal with controversy. I went through the 1988 Miss Barbados scandal (when two queens were chosen for the first time) and I survived. This is Barbados and somebody will complain or something will happen," she added.
One of ten delegates, who must be over 5ft 10ins and between 18 and 27 by February 1, will be selected to represent the country, said the entrepreneur who has worked as an agent in New York, Paris and Miami.

Hey,
Does anyone know if it's true that Wendy Fitzwilliam (Miss Universe 1998) from Trinidad is pregnant? I heard that she is, also her boyfriend & her baby's daddy is the ex- husband of former Miss World Lisa Hanna from Jamaica... He went from a Miss World to a Miss Universe. He also has a four year old boy with Lisa Hanna. I hope it works for Wendy with him, because his first marriage to Lisa didn't last very long! At least that is what I hear! Good Luck to Wendy! Hope you're happy and that the baby is healthy!!!

Hope you have a daughter, maybe she might be a Miss Universe too!

The Miss World Organisation is delighted to announce that Poland will host the Miss World 2006 contest. This September, the most beautiful women from 120 countries will travel to the heart of Central Europe to compete in Miss World 2006, the longest-running and most prestigious festival to recognise the achievements of young women.

Preparations are underway for a spectacular month-long tour of the cities, lakes and landmarks that make Poland a land so rich in heritage, culture and natural wonders. As ever, the highlight of the tour will be the 56th Miss World Final, to be staged in historic Warsaw on 30th September.

Set in the heart of Europe, Poland is a diverse country where the capital and medieval towns nestle side by side with villages virtually unaltered by time. It is a modern, vibrant and progressive state, which maintains its traditional culture and natural beauty.

Miss World – The Final is the World’s largest live annual TV event with global viewing figures topping two billion across more than 200 countries. With a record number of contestants anticipated to compete, Miss World 2006 will be the biggest event to take place in modern Poland – and comes with the seal of approval of event patron and Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz.

Miss World Organisation Chairman Mrs Julia Morley said: “Poland is a wonderful location for Miss World 2006. The people are tremendously warm hearted and they are rightly proud of their beautiful country. Poland is sure to welcome the contestants, who will take home many memories and wonderful experiences from their time here. We will showcase the wonders of Poland to the world.”

While the tour is still in the planning stages, the contestants could surely enjoy a range of attractions, from Poland’s Baltic coastal beaches in the north, to the great Mazurian Lakes or the rocky Tatra mountains in the south. Elsewhere they can visit the green wilds of the Bieszczady region, the breathtaking underground salt mine in Wieliczka, the wonders of Warsaw, with its grand palaces, parks and churches, or the medieval beauty of second city Krakow.

Elzbieta Wierzbicka, Chairman of the Miss Polonia Organisation said: “We are incredibly proud to host Miss World 2006 and to share the beauty of our country with the people of the world. Poland will welcome the contestants with a warmth and compassion for which Poles have become known. This is the greatest event in Poland’s recent history and the whole nation will unite to ensure that it is a success.”

During a recent visit to a frozen Warsaw, Miss World 2005 Unnur Birna Vilhjalmsdottir was amazed at the unique architecture and the genuine warm hospitality of the Poles. She toured the city’s sites, including the Chopin Monument and the Old Town and enjoyed local cuisine at traditional Polish restaurants. She also took time to visit and spend time with sick children at the Oncology and Haematology Ward of the Independent Paediatric Clinical Hospital in Warsaw. “I am sure that the girls will love to explore and experience the many sites that Poland has to offer,’ she said. “With the snow at this time of year, it reminds me of my home in Iceland but I am definitely looking forward to coming back when it is warm and green.”

Miss World has raised millions of pounds for charities around the globe under the banner of its ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ programme, and is credited with directly influencing a dramatic increase in tourism in Sanya, China, home to Miss World for the past three years.
A modern Miss World is a role model for her generation who can inspire others to make the best of themselves. What better place to host the contest than Poland – the home of former Miss World 1989 Aneta Krêglicka and birthplace of many great names, including six Nobel Laureates.

Its a translation of an article i readHas in the sight to Wall Street and in their eyes two signs flash of $. The former one Miss Universe Alicia Hatchet, or Alicia Inc. as the magazine nicknames it Fortune 1 is ready to remove al market its personal collection of intimate videos with the famous with the ones that has been involved.

Alicia Inc.

Itself rumora that the collection will be in four, 2 of them PG13 and 2 Rated R, includes erotic footage with Luis Miguel, leaps of bed with Pablo Hunter and an episode "since inside" with Ricardo Arjona.

All they are conscious that they are being filmed for Alicia, that in each occasion carries put its crown in the head and a band that says Miss Perversso.

The model declared to the magazine Pips in Spanish, that its reasons are only economic.

"Chama, ¿you see it me thus so cruel? If I do this, is because my disk did not sell as I expected and I need some regalitos pa´ Christmas 2". Photos

Alicia is put calient

The three famous they mentioned have reacted to the news, of different way. The representative of Luis Miguel, nobody knows who is, so he did not declare anything. Arjona sent a letter of five pages al periodic Reforms that many already compare with that of Profundis of Oscar Wilde. In turn, the rancher Pablo Hunter admitted to have had relations with Alicia, and he facilitated to the press with a list of ten acquaintances more with the ones that 3 he had been.

1 Lie filthy number one

2 Lie number two. Alicia never has said that.

3 Lie number three. Happy Day of the Innocent Saints and pardon Alicia, Luismi, Pablo and Arjona by the joke!

Alicia this year involved in a scandal was seen, when a Spanish program of television diffused a video porno of the Miss with a companion of reality show.

The program is called The Farm, where several fame, among the ones that are Alicia and their "donor", they live together a season without the comforts of this century. All they have to wash their clothes, to scrub their dishes, and to live together as they did it during last century.

It was in this house, in which the former one Miss and the Spanish conductor Fernando Perhaps, of 28 years, they were filmed doing the love.

In the video, Alicia and Perhaps they appear one over the other under the sheets, that move to great velocity.

The camera did not intimidate to the Hatchet, who commented as: "This tomorrow is going to leave in all the news Programs" or "you Give me a little bit one more". But at night, all the cats are brown, and when the sun in The Farm left, the gallita repented, asking excuses publically to its boyfriend, the baseball player Bob Abreu. Univision, 28.12.05

Cynthia Olavarria: Miss Universe 1st Runner Up
Cynthia is undeniably beautiful and no one can deny she is the number one delegate from the Caribbean as well as Miss Universe 1st Runner up. She is not only stunning but has her own unique style, which she displays wherever she goes. Despite her busy schedule since the pageant, Cynthia sat down to talk with Trident Beauties about the journey of a lifetime to Thailand and the experience of the Miss Universe pageant.
1. What was your first impression of Thailand?
To tell you the truth, when I arrived there I was expecting something else, I thought that it was going to be full of Buddhist temples everywhere and that their people weren’t going to be as nice as they were.
But I was wrong, Thailand is a wonderful place full of history but with modern places too. I totally changed my mind about them, they’re the friendliest people I ever met and they love beauty pageants. I guarantee you that Thailand is definitely the country of the smile and I hope to return soon.

2. How did you feel when you entered the Top 15 at Miss Universe?
It was an incredible moment for me because I was called last! I can tell that when you are up there looking at 67 talented women expecting for their name to be called and there’s only one spot… is something I will never forget. It was an honor, especially taking into consideration that this year was a tough one.
Everybody in my country was in front of the TV, almost having a heart attack, trembling and of course, yelling.

3. What made you decide to re-enter the Miss Puerto Rico pageant?
I did it because it was something that I always wanted. I considered that representing my country internationally was something priceless. I also wanted to acquire new experiences and to meet people from different parts of the world. It was a good opportunity to expose myself in front of billions of people worldwide and to improve my BA in Mass Communication.

4. What is your most vivid memory of the pageant?
It was when I entered to the hotel for the first time and there was a homecoming for the arriving contestants, because everything started there.
Also, I can still hear the opening number music and Scott’s instructions! Ha,ha..

5. Did you make any friends at the pageant?
Of course I did! I can tell you that I had the chance to talk to every girl (81 contestants) during the pageant, and that’s something I’m very proud of. My closest friends were: Miss Costa Rica (roommate), Panama, Paraguay, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Brazil, Nigeria, Russia, Georgia, Slovenia, Indonesia, Albania, Aruba, Antigua and Barbuda, Angola, Barbados, Belgium, Serbia and Montenegro, Dominican Republic, Israel, Italy, Norway, Kenya, Jamaica, India, Mauritius, Peru, South Africa, Philippines, Switzerland, US Virgin Islands, and Vietnam.

6. What advice would you give to other Caribbean delegates who are entering next year?
To be very open-minded and to remember that the Miss Universe Pageant is a once in a lifetime opportunity and many girls would like to be in their position. They should be prepared to leave home, work for long hours and, at the same time, experience the best moments of their lives.
As an extra thing, take a alarm-clock with you so that you’ll be ready on time and bring the least suitcases possible. If you do so, the probabilities of your room being a mess will be lower. Don’t bring an enormous and heavy National Costume, and learn how to do your hair and makeup by yourself. If you don’t do that you’ll remember these words!

7. What are your future goals?
Recently I’ve received many offers for modeling, acting and hosting in Colombia, Mexico, Miami and New York, so I’m going to give it a try!. Also, I’m planning to start my Master’s Degree in International Relations and Entertainment Law in the United States.

8. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
THANKS for your support! I always thought about you all during the competition. Every word and cheer helped me to stay positive and full of energy during those days. Thank you for trusting me! Hugs and Kisses, Cynthia

Special thanks and Best Wishes to Cynthia in all her future endeavours!!!!!!!
