Subject: The Outer Limits - 50 Years Ago

Fifty years ago today The Outer Limits first aired on ABC-TV on Monday evening, September 16, 1963. The episode was "The Galaxy Being" starring Cliff Robertson, Jacqueline Scott and Lee Phillips. It was written and directed by Leslie Stevens, who also created the series.

Wow, 50 years now since "The Outer Limits" debuted on TV.
Hard to believe.

Thinking back on this, I remember seeing the upcoming previews for the new 1963 fall season shows during the late summer and "The Outer Limits" was the one show I most wanted to see.

Actually, it was the only NEW show I watched regularly that season. I didn't start watching "The Fugitive" until the following year.

All of my other favorite shows (Still in production) were the returning shows.

Gunsmoke was starting it's ninth season
77 Sunset Strip, was in it's sixth and last season
Twilight Zone was in it's fifth and last season
Bonanza, in it's fifth
Route 66, fourth and last
Combat, second
Beverly Hillbillies, Second.

Well anyway, I was not disappointed on Monday Sept 16 1963 when Outer Limits premiered with the first episode called, "The Galaxy Being."

Though not quite as good as the Twilight Zone IMO, the show still holds up well today.

I have several volumes of Outer Limits on VHS and I'm looking forward to buying the complete DVD set hopefully when the prices drop more.
