Subject: The House of the Seven Gables (1940)

This was one of the first films that starred Vincent Price in 1940, made by Universal. Based on the real-life story of the famed house in Massachusetts. Tim will provide some highlights for us.

It's not a horror film by definition, but it is a masterpiece of dark gothic atmosphere and a somber sense of foreboding.

Vincent Price is superb as Clifford Pyncheon, an ambitious young musician who plans to sell the family home, known as Seven Gables. His greedy brother Jaffrey Pyncheon (George Sanders) vehemently disapproves, and subsequently frames Clifford for the murder of their father, Gerald Pyncheon (Gilbert Emery). The supporting cast includes Nan Grey, Alan Napier, Dick Foran and Cecil Kellaway. A suspenseful story with literate dialogue, something you don't see much of today.
