Subject: G.D. Spradlin

Noted character actor G.D. Spradlin has died at the age of 90. A native of Oklahoma, he started his professional career as a lawyer. He later worked as an Independent Oil Producer, and dabbled in politics in the early 1960s. He became an actor around 1964, and began appearing in character roles on television in 1966.

His film credits include The Godfather: Part II (1974), Apocalypse Now (1979), North Dallas Forty (1979) and The War of the Roses (1989).

Spradlin played Reverend Lemon in Ed Wood (1994), a film discussed from time to time here at this forum.

I recall him well as the Senator Pat Geary in The Godfather 2. He played an excellent part, and was in several sections of the film.

I'm going off thread here a bit, but I genuinely enjoyed those Godfather movies...violent, yes...but classy, hardly any smut or foul language, excellent story, music, dialogue and acting. The likes of G.D. Spradlin offered interesting character portrayal, and various people like this made the films so intense and entertaining.

The Godfather (1972) is one of the greatest motion pictures ever made, and what a cast! Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall and many more.

Hollywood sequels can be notoriously bad, but The Godfather: Part II (1974) is sensational, although the first one remains my favorite.

Yes...they do this often, advertising...something like Spend some time with the family.

I often catch bits and pieces, always enjoying these films. Probably my favorites, and I enjoy those rare times the "Epic" or "Saga" version is shown, where GF Pts 1 and 2 are in chronological order, and you'll often see added parts from the cutting room floor. Great if you can catch 'em on TV, maybe sometime availalble on-line. I also still enjoyed Part 3, even though it was like 20yrs after. But Pt 1 was my favorite, Pt 2 second, Pt 2 third.
