Tony Curtis was talented, versatile, humorous, likable and charismatic to many of his fans...he will be missed.

One movie, a favorite of mine in which he received top billing was...one of the last traditional epic type movies..though not a Universal film, I believe some parts were done at Universal...regardless, the movie was Taras Bulba, with Tony Curtis and Yul Brynner, a 16th Century story concerning the Ukraine, Cossacks, Poles, and invaders. A rousing musical score by Franz Waxman adds to this pre CG 1962 movie. This Harold Hecht presentation works on many levels, has spectacular battle scenes, on horseback yet, and a moving..and at times bittersweet story. The final quarter of movie pits father and son, played by Brynner and Curtis respectively....I cannot go further owing to a dramatic spoiler involved.

While I enjoyed Mr.Curtis in many of his movies, for his many different parts...humorous ones, dramatic ones, supporting parts, major roles...and he played quite nicely in Houdini and others, I somehow will remember him considerably for this particular movie, not always talked about much or shown, but I highly recommend viewing this film. To me, the film Taras Bulba also showed the fine versatility of Tony Curtis' acting ability, and while there were other good films and parts, for some reason, I will always remember Mr.Curtis for his role in this film.

A fine actor, and a great movie star in the classic sense. I grew up watching his films on television, from Houdini (1953) to The Boston Strangler (1968), and many more. The Rat Race (1960) and The Outsider (1961) are also among my favorites.

He was the father of actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Earlier this month singer Eddie Fisher passed away, who was the father of actress Carrie Fisher.

Another fine actor gone.

The first film that made me notice Tony Curtis was
"Some Like It Hot" when I saw it in 1959 at the Loews theater with my aunt and cousin in the Bronx NYC.

Today I have many of Tony's films on VHS, and a few on DVD.
Besides the films mentioned, I liked his two Boxing films,
from Universal, Flesh and Fury and The Square Jungle.
I also liked his early Universal film about juvenile delinquency, "City Across the River." from 1949, the year I was born.
