SHERLOCK HOLMES FACES DEATH. I love them all, but I really love all the wonderful British character people in this one...especially Halliwell Hobbes, Vernon Downing and Gerald Hamer. I mentioned Gavin Muir in an earlier post, and darned if I didn't find out that he was born in Chicago! Well, I consider him an honourary Brit, because his accent was so pure and natural that he completely fooled me. It was SO good, that when he played in SHERLOCK HOLMES IN WASHINGTON, I thought the AMERICAN accent was phony! He played the younger Musgrave brother in the first movie, and an American Detective in the second.

I love them all. I like the updated Holmes films best, they have that look of the Universal horror films.

The two from Fox: "Hound of the Baskervilles" and "Adventure of SHerlock Holmes" were both good, especially with Lionel Atwill and George Zucco in them. But I didn't care for the period look.

The first SH film I saw was "Terror By Night," way back in the late 50s.

My Favorite Universal Holmes Films in order:

The Scarlet Claw
The Pearl of Death
The Secret Weapon
The Woman in Green
The Spider Woman
Faces Death
Voice of Terror
In Washington
House of Fear
Terror By Night
Pursuit To Algiers
Dressed To Kill
