Subject: OT. Clive film on TCM...29 October...10:30pm PST

I know this is technically off topic, but LOOKING FORWARD, (MGM 1933) is going to be on TCM on Thursday, 29 October. For Colin Clive fans, this is a must see, as it is a performance that is the exact opposite of the murky, manic Henry Frankenstein. It's a supporting role, but Clive made clear that he always wished to be a "character" man as opposed to a "Leading" man. This small part shows just how right he was, and what great potential was lost.

Not really OT, as it ties in with Colin's Universal career. Thanks for the heads-up.

Damn...Last night my electric went out after I went to bed...Of all times for this to happen.

I set my recorder to record "Looking Forward" and "Behind the Mask" and then went to bed about 11:50 am.

I didn't know anything about the power outage till I got up this morning at 7:30. I found out when I looked over and saw my clock flashing.

Anyway with the power going off at 1:24 AM last night, it screwed up my recorder settings, and I missed both movies.

It's enough to make a grown man cry.

Sorry guys, I just needed to vent.

I know that feeling. My best to you. I was so busy, I missed it, thought it was on last night, and recorded another film on TCM!

I know that feeling! My copy is on an extremely well preserved VHS tape from 1988! I recorded it off TNT, before TCM was even created. I can tell you this. Clive's character is 6th billed..as store owner Lewis Stone's secretary, Geoffrey Fielding. Geoffrey is apparently a former school chum of Stone's son. Clive comes across as a quiet, hardworking young man with just a bit of shyness. Since he went to the same school as his boss' son, I would imagine that his family lost its money in the Crash...hence the job. Caroline Service, Stone's spoiled daughter, is extremely intrigued, finding Geoffrey an interesting change to the upperclass twits that she has been dating. Geoffrey is equally interested, but feels he has nothing to offer, and is concerned for his job.

I won't tell you any more, other than to say that there was a charming scene about how a snapshot of Caroline ends up in Geoffrey's wallet!

I am not familiar with this one, but it sounds like another neglected gem from the 1930s.

I see the cast includes Lionel Barrymore and Elizabeth Allan, who were also in Mark of the Vampire (1935 MGM).

You'll really enjoy this one, Tim. It's one of his best parts...quiet, gentle and understated...
