Rick. I LOVED this film. Unfortunately, it's been donkey's years since I've seen it! I will watch ANYTHING with Atwill, and almost anything with Rathbone...and I dearly love Sir C. Aubrey Smith.

I do remember two scenes strongly: "Pinky's" grisly end, and Sir C. Aubrey Smith explaining the family heritage to Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. He has a large map, on which keeps track of the family and its history, and he places a pin at Jamestown, Virginia.. He then mention s a Randolph cousin "who is in the Service of HIS Country.

I understand that so well, because one portion of my family tree fled to Canada, with the other half chasing them!

Now, if only TV would show some of these nifty pictures. You can't find them anywhere...

I can point you to Ashfaults Classic Movies online. They have many of the films. One of the most memorable scenes was in the climax inside Atwill's radio station. By the way, I have a TV copy I obtained that was recorded on AMC TV channel. Must have been in the 80's. Also, TCM and Universal made a big licensing deal for MANY Universal films to telecast next year. So, let us see what shall come our way on TCM?

PS: The cue entitled "War" which was re-recorded for Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe was written by Frank Skinner for Sun. If you listen to both, you can hear the difference in the length and ornamantation of both numbers. In Universe, the cue was supervised by Charles Previn and he could always make such a huge difference. The cue is longer and the horn and string sections is very well arranged. In Sun, it's shorter and has notable percussion that's absent in the Universe re-recording. In the 1939 film, it's heard past the 1 hour mark which underscores war scenes with artillary, sea action and explosions.

Thanks, Joystar!

Rick
