Shadow of a Doubt. Hitchcock's look at the darker side of small town America. A great performance by Joseph Cotten.

Scarlet Street. Edward G. Robinson is ruined by femme fatale Joan Bennett. I didn't see this one until a few years ago, but it lives up to its reputation.

The Killers. The opening sequence is legendary, with two hit men visiting a small town diner. The balance of the movie explores what lead up to that opening scene. Ava Gardner is a classic femme fatale.

Touch of Evil. One of the last of the true noir films, and one of Orson Welles best as actor and director. Includes the famous long-shot opening sequence with Charlton Heston.

This Gun for Hire. I haven't seen this one in a quite awhile, but I recall that Alan Ladd gave a very effective performance.

Tim
