Rick, thank you for adding this new resource for the enjoyment of Universal fans such as myself. As the years pass it sometimes seems like these wonderful films are being gradually buried under the layers of time, eventually to be all but forgotten by future generations. I hope this is not the case, for I feel that the horror and drama films produced by Universal during the 1930s and 1940s represent one of the greatest achievements in the history of American cinema.

You have done a marvelous job tracking the film scores, and the various stills are an enjoyable feature as well.

You're welcome and it's my pleasure. Yes, you're quite right about the historical significance of Universal's classic films. Those of us who love them will never be without them. I do hope the younger generations will find them too. The DVDs are great and more will be on the way.

KEEPING THE CLASSICS ALIVE

Whether it's FG/BR, Universal classics, or others for that matter, passing these gems down to the next generation can be a challenge these days, what with all the competition. It might be good to relate some experiences, ideas, here. Do chime in if you've suggestions. The films are too good to fall by the wayside. Passive approach is often NG.., it's better to get involved if possible.

Ideas. Does your town have a local cable access channel or H.S. studio run by students? Mine did a few years back. As fill-in near HS shows, a student would proudly introduce FG chapter of the day. (Inquire of the administration.) How about public libraries?..maybe an after school thing..gotta beware of "scary movies" though if youngsters involved. Library's ok a must and good judgement re age groups. Hey! other direction also works..eg, at senior citizen centers.. a grandparent may relate/recommend a film shown there to younger folk.
Sometimes writing a letter to smaller local stations help. Certainly, informative, interactive websites like this (and its links) are a big plus as well.

If we're passive, the films may just fade away..if you try, educate, keep 'em going, the material stands a better chance of being enjoyed by future generations. We were fortunate to have these classics passed down to us...but times have changed. Perhaps, we may have to go that extra mile to pass this onto the next generation, if we so chose.

You are right, so right. Just as I keep on pushing the pending DVD petitions for some unreleased 30's gems the studio has yet to release on DVD. We will be at that time again later this week. You must have fortitude, positive attitude, great passion and be vigilante in this matter. 2008 could very well be the year that 5 Universal films we have been requesting will be issued.

They know because we have told them. It has to keep going until they are released on DVD. Just as the October DVD set I found last week. B quality films and one of them was NEVER issued on home video. So what, they were all good films in any event. This is a good example they are listening and it's working. This is something VHS format could never attain.

A good example--I took some spare time I had this week at IMDB and submitted this forum to 63 Universal films, all from 1923 to 1956. This way, many more will find the forum. In addition, it's pending at major search engines.

Thank you for this forum! I'm one of the folks who saw your post on IMDb, where I have often posted about the Universal classics.

I share your passion. My appreciation for these movies runs long and deep, because they were the first films I discovered for myself as a very young boy some 35 years ago. And yes, I still enjoy them! As far as passing them on to new generations, I have three pre-school grandchildren (and one on the way), and in the not too distant future I will initiate them to the pleasures of these vintage classics.
I write this knowing how children can be, but I'd rather they see "The Bride of Frankenstein" before "Saw IV".
