Subject: Dad

I know my father is grateful (from wherever he is watching) for the way all of you are honoring him with your memories. It also has brought real comfort to our family.

Of course, I, too, have many memories. And the humor of some of them I appreciate now, even though I didn't think some of them were so funny at the time. For example, when I was about 12 years old and at sleep-away camp, my family came up on visiting day. My father had bought a cone-head mask, sat on some phonebooks in the driver's seat of the car, and had the cone-head sticking out of the sun roof. All the campers were lined up in the driveway of the camp waiting for the parents to arrive. Cars began to come in and, suddenly, everyone started laughing and pointing. Many cars were honking their horns. It took me awhile to realize that Mr. Conehead was MY father!!! I WAS MORTIFIED!!! Embarrassed is too mild of a word. But today, I crack up thinking about it. That was my father!
