Subject: Perry...

I first met Perry back in '79 - during my time in Virgin band, "The Records". Back then Virgin were licensed through Atlantic and I have extremely fond memories of him and several of his associates, who were all serious music fans, in a time when there was a far better balance between art and commerce, in my humble opinion.
In the mid nineties, having left the UK to come and live in the US - I was reading Billboard one day, when I noticed a snippet about him leaving Atlantic. There was a phone number listed, so I called him up! Anyway, to cut a long story short, we chatted about the old days, this and that - and eventually met for dinner at a restaurant in Washington DC's Union Station, after which my manager at the time, and I had the pleasure of working with Perry on resurrecting my career. He was there when I played in NYC and we stayed in touch over the years. In fact only a few weeks ago he called me and we were able to catch up on things, since I'd moved around quite a bit in recent years. (Indeed, the life of a musician is somewhat nomadic - with the emphasis on the "mad" part of the word!) Anyway, with a new CD release due, things were going well for me - he seemed happy and upbeat, so we discussed the possibility of working together again. Accordingly I sent him an e-mail with my latest contact information and waited for his reply...
It never came... Then a friend called me with the terrible news that he'd passed away. He never gave me any indication whatsoever that anything was wrong, cracking jokes, the same old Perry! Consequently, I was - and still am shocked and devastated and every single day since, I've been struggling to come to terms with the sad reality. I was so looking forward to working with him once again. I can't believe I'll never get to speak with him again.
I miss you - we all do. I just hope that wherever you are, you're rooming with Bon Scott just like the old days!! .
To Renee, Tracey and Jacquie, my thoughts are with you, your dad was truly a wonderful human being!!

Love,

John Wicks
