Subject: Perry, you'll be missed!

I first met Perry at Arista during the Cooper-Klenfner era, my first few years in the business. He was always a huge help to this new guy, and a lot of laughs besides. My favorite story back then - because Perry would always know which staff members were about to get fired before they did, he would sneak to their office during lunch and slide their little name plate out of their door and glue it up on the wall behind his desk. It became such a tradition people would see their nameplate gone, go right to Perry's office to see if it was up there, then go back to their office and start packing. But somehow Perry managed to NOT make such a stunt mean-spirited, it somehow seemed to actually take some of the pain of being fired away. Then at Atlantic when I worked with Tony Smith and Genesis, the took them and Phil Collins under his wing and was extremely helpful in getting them to superstar status. I'm so glad I had JUST gotten back in touch with Perry again a few weeks ago and had more chances to laugh with him.... god bless you Perry!
