Subject: Perry Cooper, Liz Derringer and me

It was the early 90's and Liz derringer was working with me to promote a Peter Max exhibition in Soho.

Phil Collins was nominated for 8 Grammy's, Peter was doing the cover and poster for that years Grammy Award's at radio City and Liz suggested we contact her friend Perry Cooper to see if he could facilitate Peter painting portraits of Phil and having Phil appear at hanson gallery in Soho for the reception.

We called Perry and it was obvious to me that he really liked Liz and knew her a long time. Perry said he's present the idea to Phil.

The next day Perry called to say that Phil didn't know who Peter was and would be coming in on the Concorde the day of the Grammy's.

We had moved on to other ideas when Perry called to let us know that in speaking to Jill, Phil's wife, he learned that she was a lifelong Peter Max fan. She wanted Peter to not only paint Phil, but their daughter Lily and her as well.

The night of the exhibition opening in Soho we had a driving rain storm. Phil, jill and Lily arrived at the show with Perry advancing them into the gallery. The evening was a huge success, the Collins family loved the portraits and as they were about to leave, Perry let me know that they wanted to visit the studio the next day.

Perry brought Phil, Jill and Lily over and they spent time with Peter while I shmoozed with Perry. We became friend that day and stayed in contact over the years. When Perry left Atlantic we stayed in contact.

Years later Perry called to ask if Peter would paint Lily, now a teenager. Jill wanted to give Phil a wedding present of a Peter Max painting of their daughter to celebrate his marriage to someone new.

Perry's genorosity of spirit and his kindness was something really special to me. I regret that we didn't spend more time these last few years.

As I look up into the sky Perry, i'm thinking of you.

Gene
