Summary: A different story about Sarah.

AN: Sarah had twins by Chris when she is 19 and took in Chris’s younger brother, Jerry, who was 9 years old when Chris went to prison. She divorced Chris 5 years before coming to JAG HQ after he assaulted another prisoner and received 20 to life. She arrives with twin girls (soon to be 10) and a 19 year old brother-in-law who she will be sending to Georgetown pre-law.
This story starts when Harm meets Mac in the rose garden and goes from there. It takes on a life of its own.

18 January, 1997
After Harm and Mac spent their first case together retrieving the Declaration of Independence and returning home, many revelations happened. They loaded into Harm’s car at the airport and made their way to JAG HQ to report in.
After making their report to the Admiral, they were given the rest of the day off. It was very important to Mac since the house she had rented (before going on their investigation) over close to Georgetown University was to receive the furniture movers tomorrow. They exited the office and Harm noticed she did not have a way to get around.
(H) Are you having problems with the jeep I saw you driving the other day?
(M) No. With money as tight as it is, I have to share with Jerry.
(H) Jerry? Jerry Who?
(M) Jerry Ragle, my brother in law. Oh, that’s right; you haven’t met my tribe yet. Mind giving me a lift by the house I rented and meet everybody?
(H) Not at all. Climb in.
After getting underway, Mac started discussing their investigation:
(M) I am flattered that you agreed to be my partner. The Admiral told me you were the best and I am sure I will learn a lot from you.
(H) Please don’t pick up any of my bad habits. I admired the way you worked convincing your uncle to give the parchment back. You did a nice job and I think we are going to get along just fine once you get used to my Jet-Jock ways.
(M) Yeah, I noticed you pushed the envelope a few times. I guess it is better to be confident rather than timid. Thanks for not letting them throw Uncle Matt to the wolves.
(H) You mean to Webb and his cronies?
(M) Yeah. Remind me to never trust that guy. He seems to have his own agenda most of the time. He makes me uncomfortable. Careful, take the next left!
Here it is. Well partner, are you ready to meet my family?
He quickly glanced at the jeep in the driveway and the figure of a rather large young man on the porch wondering what he was getting himself into.
(H) I noticed your jeep in the driveway, is Jerry here?
(M) Yep, he better be.
All kind of wild thoughts quickly flooded his mind because he had not noticed a wedding ring and had found Mac easy on the eyes and had enjoyed some subtle flirting with her during their trip. He was going to be completely out of his depth if she was married because he was already having special thoughts about what he wanted to do with her body and her cute butt. They both got out of the car and approached the house as Mac called to Jerry:
(M) Jerry, please come inside so I can introduce you to my new partner. Where are the girls?
(J) They were in their room a minute ago.
Mac, Harm, and Jerry entered the house and Mac called out for the girls to come down stairs. They both came down the stairs as if the house was on fire, stopping in front of their mother in the living room.
(M) Lt. Commander Harmon Rabb Jr, I want to introduce you to my brother-in-law Jerry Ragle and my identical twin daughters Laura Alyce Ragle and Victoria Raye Ragle. Jerry is 19 and has been with me for 10 years and the girls are soon to be 10. My divorced husband, Chris Ragle, even though a lot of fun, was convicted of robbery and was sent to prison 10 years ago leaving me pregnant and his younger brother, Jerry, without any other family. I divorced Chris 5 years ago after he hurt someone in prison and is now in for 20 to life. I took back my maiden name, MacKenzie, after the divorce.
(J) Even though she always introduces me as her brother-in-law, she is the only real mom I have ever known. She has made a way for all of us thru the past 10 difficult years. Things have been getting better for us lately. It’s nice to meet you Mr. Rabb.
(M) Jerry has been a God-send to me and has helped me a lot with Laura and Victoria. Identical twins are a challenge at times but mine are the absolute best.
(V) She always tells us that. Mom is pretty cool. It’s nice to meet you Mr. Rabb.
(L) Just how tall are you? You look about 8 foot tall. Oh, pardon me; it’s nice to meet you Mr. Rabb.
(H) I would rather you all called me Harm or Mr. Harm without your mother has objection. To me, Mr. Rabb was my grandfather and my father. I am pleased to meet every one of you.
Jerry, have you already been attending classes here or are you coming in mid-semester?
(J) Mid semester. I have been attending Baltimore Community College and they arranged the change since mom received her transfer orders. Monday is my first day and I dread the Physics and Dynamics class because it is something mom doesn’t know much about.
(H) Not a problem. I am also a naval aviator, have my own plane and I had 4 dynamics classes while at Annapolis. I would be glad to help. Call me any time you have questions.
(J) The Naval Academy at Annapolis?
(H) Yes. Have you ever given any thought about going there? With your mom being a Marine Corp Major, between her and me, we should be able to pull some strings and get you in if you are serious about it.
(J) That would be so cool.
(M) Jerry, I will need to talk to Harm more before we even start talking about that. OK?
(H) Your names, Laura and Victoria, were evidently chosen by your mom after she saw each of you when you were born. The names fit so well. She will need to tell me how I tell you apart. What grade are you in and are you going to be in the same classroom?
(V) We are in the fourth grade and mom demanded they let us stay together.
(L) We are best friends and always stick together.
(H) I’ll bet you are and you are beautiful like your mom. What kind of pizza does everyone like?
Harm heard all of the meat types all at once and turned to Mac.
(H) Mac, can you give me some guidance here, it’s my treat.
(M) OK gang, I need to talk to Harm and then we will order. I’ll call you when it comes. Gather all your dirty clothes so we can wash tomorrow after the washer arrives and is set up. …….….{ he told the girls they are beautiful like me. Wow, I must have impressed him some way}
Mac escorted Harm out to the back porch area and closed the door behind her.
(M) We are partners now, right? We need to talk.
(H) Yes we are. I think we should be able to tell each other anything without offending or upsetting the other.
(M) OK. Pizza is out of my budget.
(H) Not mine! What kind of pizza do we order? I told you it is my treat.
(M) 3 large combinations will work but I don’t want charity. It’s tight for us but we have all the normal things covered, thanks anyway.
Harm continued looking into her eyes as he selected the number to his favorite pizza place and handed the phone to her. She gave the order and address and then clicked it shut and handed it back to him.
(H) I thought you agreed we are now partners. I have “been there, done that” and I know what a difference $100 a month can make in peoples lives. I want us to go to the bank tomorrow and set up a joint bank account. I am going to set up an allotment to that account of $200 a month and we can both draw from it. In the future you can allot to that account when you can. It will be there when you have exhausted your funds. Use it to make your family feel special like I know you already do. Do it for me, your partner, OK? Bank in the morning?
(M) What strings are attached to this? What do you think you are buying from me?
(H) Oh, it’s not all altruistic. Since we are now partnered together, talk is getting around that we may be the best team that has ever been. If people believe that, we will get the biggest and best cases allowing us to do more good for everyone. I not only want that for me but you also. I don’t want you worrying about paying the rent when we should be working a case. Also, my knowing the pay raise from my last promotion is making a real difference to someone is important to me. You and your someone’s to be exact.
Mac, I think we need to talk about teaming up to get Jerry into the academy.
(M) OK. Yes, bank in the morning before the movers come. If I ever use any of it, I’ll tell you what I used it for.
(H) Not necessary. I don’t need your gratitude; I want you to help your family. Atlantic Bank in the 900 block of Anderson Ave at 08:00.
(M) I’ll be there. May I tell everyone pizza in 15 minutes?
(H) Sure.
The pizza came and Harm ended up sitting between two fair ladies named Laura and Victoria. Maybe the Rabb charm worked on young maidens also. Harm sat feeling good that his partner was someone really special. 22:00 came too quickly and he finally excused himself and made his way towards his car. He heard sound and movement behind him and turned to Mac.
(M) Thanks partner. I think you made 3 new friends tonight just by being your normal charming self. Even though they talk of all I have done for them, they have given me so very much more and made my life what it is. I’ve got tomorrow off to make sure the furniture is delivered but I will be at the bank at 08:00 like you asked. Thanks for bringing me home and for meeting my family.
(H) I envy you. I can see they love you very much. I still think we should talk about Jerry and the academy. Think about it, OK? See you tomorrow, Mac.
Harm moved into his car and pulled slowly out of the driveway and made it home to a night filled with memories of a warm loving family.
Harm was waiting as Mac arrived at the bank and quickly had the account set up so an account number could be given to payroll for the allotment. She returned home and he went on to the office.
Over the next 4 week they worked cases together and they were winning about all they tried. Harm was spending a lot of evenings at Mac’s place working on cases and slowly becoming a member of the tribe. He even checked homework some nights before he left. He took everyone to Blacksburg on the forth weekend and took everyone flying in his plane. At the end of the 5th week, Harm dropped by her office and asked about the weekend.
Friday
23 February
(H) Got big plans for the weekend?
(M) Spending tonight and Saturday night in Baltimore with Uncle Harry. The girls look forward to seeing him because he always spoils them.
(H) Who is Uncle Harry?
(M) He is a friend, a closet homosexual that was in law school with me. I spend time with him when I need my itch scratched. It helps his rep and I am then good for a few more weeks.
(H) Itch, oh………………………….oh, you mean you have sex with him?
(M) Yes. It works for me. I can’t devote the time needed to develop a long term relationship with anyone and I hate the one night stand thing. It might be dull for him but he is a good sport about it.
(H) I agree. One night stands are the pits, but…….………I am interested in something real for the long term but haven’t found anyone I would want my mother to see, let alone meet.
(M) We are leaving for Baltimore right after I get off work.
(H) Mac, do you think you and I could work it out where we could deal with scratching the itch together?
(M) I don’t know. Are you a Homo?
(H) No. Do I have to be? I’m about as straight as you, I guess. It would be a lot better than what I have been doing lately and I think we might even enjoy it.
(M) I’ll think it over. We might be able to work something out. If you need me for anything, call me on my cell phone or at home on Sunday because I will be back Sunday afternoon.
(H) Why don’t you take Jerry over to the academy on your way home and let him walk around? How about you plant a seed and we can both watch it grow? Call me when you get home because I want to know how it went.
(M) I will. Thanks for caring about us.
