Any afghan pattern that is comprised of square motifs can be easily modified by changing the number of squares used.
Afghan patterns that are comprised of rows instead of motifs are more complicated to re-size. If the pattern states that the overall pattern is a "multiple of x+y" then the pattern may be altered by changing the number of chains for the foundation chain before you begin.
