Subject: INFO FROM BOB BAIN PRODUCTIONS

Parade of States :
This year, all 52 contestants will make their grand entrance in the new venue on Saturday night. Each contestant should wear a party dress, color and style of her choice, which is walk-able for a potentially choreographed production number. This party dress can be defined in many different ways. We want to leave this wide-open so each contestant can pick any dress (not gown) that reflects her personality. The contestants should ask themselves: If I were to wear a dress to a party, what would I wear? Whatever the contestant’s answer is to that question will be the dress she should wear in this segment of the show. You should be aware that we are currently planning on using sashes in this segment. Please take this into consideration when selecting this dress. Remember, it will have a sash going across the bodice, so please make your choices appropriately. The judges are being given instructions that they must select a Miss America that has a contemporary youthful look. As you are well aware, this Look is comprised in part of hair, make-up and wardrobe. Please make sure your selections in those areas produce the effect for which the judges will be looking. As a state director, you do not want to make your contestant look older than our age range of 17-24. Please consult magazines, television, etc for what today's young women are wearing, as well as contemporary hair and makeup styles.

Top Ten Announcement:
The contestants will wear the same dress as worn in The Parade of States.

Swimsuit Competition:
As was the case last year, Speedo will be providing the wardrobe for this segment. Details will follow from MAO.

Evening Wear Competition:
Contestants should select elegant, formal gowns, in any color of their choosing. This is truly the couture segment of the show and the contestants need to look the part. Please be aware that the girls will be walking down some stair with escorts, so trains and extremely high heels are discouraged.

Top Five Announcement:
The contestants will wear the same gowns worn in the Evening Wear Competition.

Talent:
Talent for the three preliminary nights and the Top Five on Saturday night will require that your contestant select an outfit appropriate for her talent.

The Finale:
The crowning moment this year will require all 52 contestants to bring a long white gown for the finale. However, the Top Five Contestants will be able to wear any gown of their choosing for the crowning.

In an effort to make sure the public sees our contestants as being reflective of women of their generation, we want to remind everyone that all contestants should look like the young women they are. These contestants should feel comfortable being themselves and looking like contemporary young women that today’s teens and young adults can relate to. So, please be aware that the judges will know that today’s Miss America must possess this youthful look.

On a personal note, I am so pleased to be invited back to participate in what is sure to be one of the most invigorating and exciting Miss America Competitions in many years.

See you in January!

Sincerely,
Bob
