Midnight had stumbled a few times in the wrong direction, perhaps on purpose, to avoid the overwhelmingly large herd in the first grove. No longer did she wish to join. Tossing her head, she came to a sliding stop, hooves splayed like a newborn colt, and eyes dancing like the fire that burned in her soul.

The sky was black again, and the moon reflected off her pelt, which shimmered in the light. Owls were calling, wolves were howling, and the birds had gone to nest. But she was still dancing her strange pirouettes in the night.

Galloping into another herd, she slowed again, tassel raised high, boa arched, and eyes bright, as she lifted her head, and stamped a hoof. She was here, and she was about to let him know it.
