It's a weird experience. You feel yourself falling asleep, and then seemingly waking right back up again. There's no sensation of the passage of time. You’ll be groggy for a bit too, but they’ll keep you awake until it passes. No big deal.

I feel your pain. I have rather the opposite problem: no arches at all. I often feel like I have railroad spikes driven into my heels when I first wake up. It gets better as the day goes on, but the pain never totally subsides. Really isn’t much they can do in my case.
