We have competed at many HT pageants so we have a pretty good idea of what they look for. Most kids are on stage alone at 2 and a half (depending on the system). By 3 they are definitely on their own. Most moms would agree. She should hit the center X alone with you standing behind her. If she stills wants to be carried then you mght consider taking a break until she is a bit more confident.

I would take a break if you can not at least get her to walk holding your hand. Try putting some x's on the floor in a T and practice at home (then when she sees them at the pageant she will know exactly what to do! My daughter went through the same thing and we thought about taking a break but then I tried this and it works! But you have to practice on a regular basis not just the day before the pageant! (It also helps to put her in her pageant dress when you do this so that she knows that this is "playing pageant" at least that is what we call it - and then the day of the pageant we tell her that we are going to play pageant somewhere! Also, we have gotten to where when she is in the pageant dress at a pageant she walks the whole time we don't pick her up and carry her before and in between events this gets them used to the idea in pageant attire we are big girls and we walk!! If all of this doesnot work then I would definitely take a break! I hope that this all helps!
