And yes, circut judges will do just that, mark off if your dress is out of fashion. The seed pearls and seed beads are in but the regular pearls are a big NO NO. I would not pay any amount of money with a dress that has pearls unless they can come off easily and rhinestones replace them. Good Luck

We are in the South and pearls are very very much outdated, And yes if you show up with a dress that is LOADED with pearls and you will get knocked and someone with high glitz rhinestones will win. If you plan on doing a Natural pageant you may be able to get by with pearls. My advise to you is If you are in love with the dress, buy it and if she doesn't do well you can always add stones to it. It is you're opinion that really matters (but we all want to come home with the big crown) LOL, Remember though if you are competing somewhere up north or anywhere else but here you may not get knocked for pearls, we only compete down here and I dont know what is in or out up around their neck of the woods lol.
