Subject: Light of My Heart, cont'd Whoops, I posted below the same as here! Wherever you read it -- here's the next bit -LOL!

Harm laughed. He actually truly enjoyed the sight of Mac looking like an ecstatic four year old, *herself*, on Christmas morning. He became wistful and felt privileged to be the first person to make this happen for her – ever.

Harm, grabbing a small box, first and handing it to Mac, while saying, “You know, it IS good to see you smiling again!”

Mac shyly looked down and unwrapped her gift, “Ah, now how did Santa know my favorite perfume was almost finished!” She laughed, “Thank you, Santa!”

“Now, you!”, as she excitedly handed him a large box.

Harm, “Moi? Hmnn – it’s slightly bigger than a bread box….wow! Mac, this is fantastic!” as he unwrapped the most exquisite cashmere camel v-neck sweater he had ever seen. This was something he would drool over to buy for himself, but would never dare as it would be too expensive and self-indulgent. “Mac, no woman has EVER gotten a present for me SO right – not even my mom!” He tried it on immediately and it fit him perfectly. He was astonished! “I *love* it – thank you!” And he reached over and gave her a peck on her lips. He lingered before sitting back, just a quick second, to take in her soft, sensual scent.

Uh-oh, the sparks again! Whatever just happened, made Mac feel *feelings* she wasn't supposed to be *feeling*! She quickly picked up his next smaller package – more as a distraction. She was also anxious to give it to him and see his reaction.

Mac, handing him the small box, “Here, your turn again – this is really a bit of a fun gift – you know – for a fun fly-boy kind of guy!”

Harm, smirking, “Very funny, ninja girl!”, as he stuck out his tongue. “Oh, Mac – this is great – in fact, it’s *perfect*!” as he held up a dashing, quite well-made sequined red bow tie.

Mac, laughing, and then she started rambling “Yeah – I figured you would NEVER buy yourself something like this and it actually might come in handy for the holidays every year AND it matched your corvette -- not just for the color, but it’s all shiny and flashy and looks like it oozes with that jet jock charm of yours – the ladies (she exaggerated as she said this) will love it!!” She reached around and tied it around his neck. Harm was in agony for the moments she was a breath away from him.

Mac stood back and admired her handiwork. ‘Good Lord’, she thought, ‘He looked like the next Chippendale calendar cover!’

She was nervous as she kept recalling his words -- he was her ‘friend’, her ‘friend’, her ‘friend’ – she had to keep the conversation as such. She put her hand on her hip, as she remarked, with arched brow, “Very impressive!”

Harm sobered up a bit as he reached for a big box to hand to her, as he said, “Actually, there’s only one lady I’m out to impress these days….” But his phone rang before he could finish his sentence and before Mac opened up her box. He picked it up, thinking it could be Mattie.

But it wasn’t.

Harm, to the phone, “Oh, hi there. Merry Christmas to you, too. Yes, I did get it, Alicia. I was planning on popping the response in the mail first thing tomorrow. Sorry, I’m always a bit late with stuff like this! But, while I have you here – please make a note that I WILL be bringing a guest – I indicated a *maybe* on the invitation response, but I'd like to change it to a definite *yes*. Yes, yes, ok – looking forward to seeing you, too. Bye!”

Mac had already gotten up and was fiddling in the kitchen.

Harm walked to the kitchen. “Shall I make us some hot chocolate?”

Mac, quietly, “No. no, I’m okay. I was just taking my pain medication and I think I’ll go have a quick shower and get dressed. I can’t stay in these hospital scrubs, forever!”
Harm, softly taking her good arm as she walked by”, Mac, that was Alicia Montes.”

Mac looked back at him with a completely indifferent, relaxed expression, revealing none of the disappointment whatsoever, that she was feeling, “Yes, I gathered that. Hope she’s having a wonderful Christmas. Sounds like she's really looking forward to being with over the holidays”

Harm, a bit puzzled by Mac’s remark, started to ramble himself, “She invited me to this big swanky New Year’s Eve ball for next Friday night. It's for charity. She's co-hosting it or something like that. Supposedly, all of the Washington 'elite' will be there. I know I didn’t even ask you yet, but I was hoping you would be my guest – my – ah – date for the evening. I already indicated that you would be joining.” He got nervous, now. “I know it was really presumptuous of me to answer on your behalf, but I …I took the chance that you’d come – that you might even like it – like getting all dressed up on New Year’s Eve and having something like this to go to. I mean, it’s not really *my thing* at all, but if you came with me, I thought it would be *fun* -- the two of us – all dressed up and somewhere to go!”

Mac, laughing sardonically, “Oh, yeah with me, looking like this!” Now, she spoke angrily to him, “And you’re damn right – you *were* being presumptuous – you *should* have asked me first!”

Harm, angrily back. “And you would have said ‘no’! You were right last night – you *have* been pushing me away! I thought this would be a great way to break the *ice* a bit with you – to help us start out the new year together! Even if there’ll be a gazillion people around us – we’d still start the year, at least, together. I thought it was a great plan! And by New Year’s Eve, you’ll be looking as great as ever. Look, the swelling is completely already down on your face and it looks like you’re moving your wrist a whole lot better today already. And who cares, anyway! It’ll make for great conversation – how you survived this horrendous crash and can still look better than most of the bores there! Mac, we have so much fun together at these things – please say you’ll come with me”

Mac, feeling sheepish now, “No, you’re right. I am already feeling better and I’m sorry. I know you meant well and I appreciate the gesture. I really do, but I still don’t know….”

Harm’s phone rang again. This time it *was* Mattie.

Harm, cheerily to Mattie, but still motioning to Mac that their conversation was not finished yet, “Hey, Mats, Merry Christmas to you, too and to Tom.” Mac motioned to Harm to wish them Merry Christmas from her. “Oh, and Merry Christmas to you and your Dad from Mac! Yeah, that’s where I am. Mac was in a pretty bad accident ….no…no – she’s fine –minor injuries…thank God….yeah…I know….a Christmas miracle! Soooo, kiddo, I AM coming, but not till tomorrow or so.”

Mac opened her eyes WIDE, as she said loudly, “No – you’re going *today*, sailor. NOW I remember why I’m covering until New Year’s Eve. You’re supposed to be in Blacksburg with Mattie and Tom!”

Harm talked into the phone, “Mattie, let me call you right back. No, everything’s ok – I’ll call you back!”
