Subject: 5 Pageant Interview Mistakes

From my experience conducting mock interviews and competing in pageants myself I have noticed a few common bad habits that girls have on pageant day when entering the interview room. These are all very easy to fix and should be accounted for before the day of the pageant. Here are a few things to keep your eye out for when preparing for pageant interview:
1. Rambling
This is number one because it is by far the most common bad habit that pageant girls have during interview. Present a clear and concise answer to the question with sufficient explanation, tie it back, and then move onto the next question. You have a very limited amount of time in front of the judges so make sure you utilize every minute. Although you might be saying something very important using quality information, the more you ramble the less credible you appear.
2. Repeating the question
Again you are working with a very limited amount of time, so there is no reason to repeat a question that everybody just heard. Jump right into the answer and move on.
3. Not being prepared
It is very apparent when a girl is not prepared and has not been practicing for the interview. This is not to say that you should prepare for every question and that you won’t get stumped during interview. But you should have answers ready for the obvious questions and show that you have really thought about why you would be the best candidate for this position. (Suggested Read, “How to Prepare for Pageant Interview.“
4. Not knowing how to convey your opinion
This can go one of two ways. Girls either present their opinion too forcefully and don’t respect that others might think differently. Or they answer in the way that they think the judges want them to answer and don’t give a genuine response. Either way you should recognize that as a titleholder you’ll represent people that agree with you and people that don’t agree with you. You have to be respectful of everybody’s opinion. At the end of the day you need the judges to like you in order to score you well, so think about that one answering each question.
5. Not being dressed appropriately
Each pageant has a very different style to their interview competition and just as every other part of the pageant, your outfit during interview is very important. Make sure you dress for the job that you want and get an outfit that fits the style of the particular system in which you are competing. This is also the longest amount of time in which you will be standing in front of the judges, so make sure that each detail is accounted for. There are more likely to miss minor details when you are far away on stage and only in front of them for a minute, but when you’re sitting or standing in close proximity to them for a a while they are going to notice things such as stains, wrinkles, and whatnot.

If you change nothing else except for these five things during your interview, I can promise that your interview score will improve and you’ll see positive results in your overall placing at your next pageant.
